Ryota Yamada / Stylist

Born in Tokyo , 1980. After graduating from Bunka Fashion College, he joined the store staff at BEAMS. After graduating from Bunka Fashion College, he worked as a shop staff at BEAMS, and later studied under stylist Hiroshi Ozawa. Currently, he works mainly for men's fashion magazines, but also demonstrates his skills in catalogs and other publications.

New Era is an authentic and reliable brand.

Mr. Yamada, did you know that "New Era" was releasing bags?

mountain field.: I knew. When I went to the showroom to lease, I saw a lot of caps on the line , with bags next to them. . I also saw people carrying them around town in various places. I don't remember where exactly, but I see them so often.

That's how impressive it was.

mountain fieldI know it's called "New Era," but I think it's easy to use because the logo doesn't stand out in a good way. Also, I feel comfortable with the brand.

What kind of image do you have of the New Era brand?

mountain field. I have a traditional impression. I see old New Era caps at thrift stores. I have a flannel cap that was issued to the U.S. military in the 1970s.

The traditional image is one of the most appealing to those who love clothes, isn't it?

mountain field. there is a sense of trust and familiarity. There is an authentic charm to it.

The requirement for a bag is whether it goes with the clothes or not.

What kind of bags do you usually use?

mountain field.: I use a backpack, a messenger bag, and a small simple tool bag. I don't switch my luggage often, and my mood changes every week or two, so I rotate those three well to keep my mind fresh.

When does your mood change?

mountain field. Since bag selection is linked to coordination, simply put, if the fashion changes, the bag will naturally change as well. . Therefore, the condition I look for in a bag may be whether it goes with my clothes or not.

. In other words, versatility is important.

mountain field. Maybe so. It's not that simple is good enough, but if it doesn't go with the outfit, there's nothing we can do about it. Looks are important. Conversely, I don't choose a bag based on functionality.

I have the image of stylists using large bags rather than small ones, but are you concerned about capacity?

mountain field: That may be the case. I'm not choosing a particularly large bag, but I do carry a lot of material with me. At the very least, it needs to be large enough to hold A4 paper. It needs to be large enough to hold A4 papers at the very least. . It is also important to have a good shape when you carry it on your back.

Military-like design that matches the current trend.

When you saw the New Era bag packs, what was your impression of the items?

mountain field. I felt a strong military element. The adjusters on the sides of the compartments and the tape detail on the front are just like that. . But real military items have a more rugged image. But you have managed to edit it and make it into a town-use item while retaining the military quality.

. that it has a smart impression.

mountain field. yes. I would feel more comfortable using "New Era" than using a bag from an unfamiliar outdoor brand or an item that pays homage to the military. The manufacturing is also solid.

What do you think is the appeal of military bags?

mountain field. I think it's a standard place. It never fades away, or rather, it has a universal appeal. Military bags never go out of style. Bags are items that you want to have a long-lasting relationship with, and in that sense, you can use them with peace of mind.

Is it the same with this bag?

mountain field. Yes, that's right. Until now, vintage clothing and somewhat classic military items have been popular, but recently, current items have become popular. There are many items of clothing made of functional materials, and they match the current fashion trends. I feel this backpack is in the same mood. It has a modern structure and design.

What do you think about the ease of use?

mountain field. It has a lot of storage space. The main compartment has two layers and a small pocket, so it can be used in various ways depending on the purpose. 3-day/2-night trip is enough with this one, and I think it can also be used for a little mountain climbing.

I see.

mountain fieldI think the size is exquisite, and I think it's a good line (laughs). If it were too big, people would say, "Where are you going now? (laughs). But this size is not like that. It has a lot of storage capacity, but it looks compact. So, it can be used on a daily basis.

How would you use it?

mountain field. I would use it for everyday use. I would put my work documents in the main compartment, and put my notebook, notebook, and writing utensils in a separate compartment. I usually travel by car, but sometimes I take the train or bus. I would like to use this bag on those occasions.
