First of all, how did you two come to know A.G. Spalding & Bross?

YamaguchiFor me, it was vintage clothing. There was a vintage boom when I was a teenager, and A.G. Spalding & Bros. sweatshirts were special to me from then on.

riffleWhat, is that such a fashionable trigger? For me, it was baseball (laughs). I learned about baseball when I was in elementary school, and I actually used a wooden bat. But in terms of fashion, I'm like him, I wear vintage clothes. I have an image that there are so many kinds of tags.

_S5A3832

Do you actually have a vintage piece?

YamaguchiWhen I became interested in it, I couldn't afford old vintage sweatshirts because they were already too expensive. . so I was looking for something interesting in wool.

riffleSweatshirts, of course, but also, as he says, wool. . as is the Yale University pullover coat I am wearing today. It has hookless zippers, so it must be 1920s.

_S5A3726

That is unusual. When did you buy it? Was it in the 2000s, when prewar vintages were booming?

riffleNo, it was around 1995, I think, since I was a teenager, wearing Lee's Unionalls with the house logo and Red Wing Irish Setters (laughs). . I choose vintage items not because of brand or rarity, but because of design. . Then I naturally gravitate toward interesting prewar pieces. A.G. Spalding & Bros. had a lot of unique details, and it stood out from its time.

riffle. Also, in the past, they used to make various kinds of wear for aviators. Among them, I have the impression that there were many good leather flight jackets and gloves. A.G. Spalding & Bros. attracts attention only for its athletic wear, but it is actually a broad brand that can produce a wide variety of high quality wear. Such background is one of the appeals of this brand.

Heritage wear made contemporary, with the best of American style from A.G. Spalding & Bros.

This season, Journal Standard will begin carrying the revived " A.G. Spalding & Bros. What attracted you to the brand?

Yamaguchi. I had long been aware of the information that the actual name would be reissued. When I visited the exhibition, I found that the gray-based lineup and clean display looked very fresh. The products were faithfully reproduced, but at the same time, they knew how to make them look modern and attractive. I thought the balance between the two was very good.

riffleJournal Standard has a label called "J.S. Homestead," which specializes in heritage fashion, and I have the sense that that kind of taste has come full circle again. A.G. Spalding & Bros. fits right in.

. Indeed, more and more people are now paying attention to heritage fashion again.

rifflePrinted sweatshirts and cut-and-sewns are at the height of their popularity, but we thought it was time to re-evaluate plain sweatshirts that are well-made and look great when worn alone. We picked up A.G. Spalding & Bros. as one such brand.

So what do you actually have in mind for Stulling's proposal?

YamaguchiAs Kawai said, I would recommend wearing it as a single piece in early spring. It is basic, but the details of both the sweatshirt and the sideline parka are distinctive and stand out, and I thought it would be interesting to change it up with the size.

riffleBecause they are authentic, I think it is easier for the wearer to express his or her individuality. This season's "Journal Standard" collection is based on the concept of "Best American", and proposes a modern reinterpretation of American styles such as uniforms, athletic, traditional, and collegiate styles, which can be considered to be the origin of our company. We offer styles that are a modern reinterpretation of American styles such as uniforms, athletic, traditional, and collegiate styles.

So that's when you turned to A.G. Spalding & Bross.

riffle. Yes, it is. A.G. Spalding & Bros. will be one of the iconic brands for Journal Standard this season. We will carry it in all our stores and display promotional boxes and other items. . In addition, we have also asked for a special order.

. 2-tone tailored Journal Standard's special order.

A.G.SPALDING&BROS. × JOURNAL STANDARD FOOTBALL SHIRT ¥16,800+TAX

. It's a two-tone sideline parka and football shirt. What is the aim of this color scheme?

YamaguchiWhen I visited the exhibition, I really liked the texture of the gray from A.G. Spalding & Bross. The in-line items have a good enough atmosphere, but I asked for a two-tone gray color to make it easier to wear as a single piece. This would not stand out in an odd way, and I thought it would catch people's attention even when worn simply.

The two-tone gray color scheme is often seen in vintage sweatshirts, isn't it? On the other hand, how about the color scheme planned by Mr. Kawai?

riffleWhat I asked for myself is two tones of navy and white. But what I don't want you to misunderstand is that it is not a navy that I put down, but an aggressive navy.

What is "aggressive navy"?

riffleNavy is a standard color and a hot seller, but we wanted to create something that our customers would find fresh and new. This season's theme, "Best American," includes Ivy, so I thought a school color would be a good choice. I used my own vintage Yale University items as a source of inspiration for the color scheme.

_S5A3814

The school color scheme also works well with athletic wear.

riffleMoreover, the sideline parka is double-faced and reversible, so it can be worn with the navy side facing out. The key point is that you can enjoy two completely different colors of parkas, white and navy, with just this one piece.

Not only do they both look fresh, but they also seem to stimulate the vintage lover's buttons.

riffleSince this is the kind of brand, I think it is important to have a good understanding of the background and originals of the time, and then add our own modern sensibilities.

_S5A3777

YamaguchiI know exactly what it feels like to work at "Journal Standard" because it was "J.S. Homestead" that Mr. Kawai started up. The point of the special order was not only the color, but also the fact that the sideline parka was originally a double-faced sweatshirt, but that would be too hot in spring and summer. So we made the back side not sweatshirt but cut-and-sewn fabric.

riffleWhen I was a student, my mother said to me, "Double-faced clothes don't dry well when washed!" How she complained to me (laughs). With these specifications, you shouldn't have to worry about that (laughs).
