Danner has released the "Danner Field" in an effort to make more people aware of its appeal. These boots can be worn at festivals and outdoors, but they can also be easily coordinated in the city. Of course they match with outdoor fashion, but we also want to incorporate them into a more free-spirited look. What should we do to achieve this? We asked Yuhi Ozaki, designer of SUN/kakke, and Fumiya Sekiguchi, newly appointed designer of FilMelange, to show us their coordinated outfits incorporating the Danner Field. Their styling reveals the secret to incorporating mountain boots into your daily style.

Mr. Ozaki has an image of traditional fashion, but today's outfit has a different feel.
tailI try to wear basic Ivy or British fashions half the week and wear what I am interested in or want to wear the other half of the week. Three days out of the week I wear traditional fashion, three days out of the week I wear other fashions, and the other day I consciously wear a suit.
Why do you change your taste in coordination from day to day?
tailAs a designer, I consciously wear fashions other than the basics in order to keep my antennae up. While traditional fashion is eternal and unchanging, the fashion on the antenna side, in other words, the taste of the fashion that catches my attention at the time, changes slowly over a period of about six months to a year. As the footwear for the antenna side of fashion, I have recently been paying attention to mountain boots.
Why are mountain boots of interest now?
tailI have always liked small shoes, so I tended to choose thin soles. Recently, however, I have been focusing on gathering the volume of the silhouette at the bottom, and mountain boots are just right when I wear long shirts and voluminous pants.
Please tell us about today's coordination.
tailI have a yearning for the American outdoors and work style, but those kinds of outfits just don't suit my character. So, when I wear boots like these, I try to make some kind of modification. Today, I tried to create a stateless look by combining a woven jacket made by my own brand, wide corduroy pants, and a pajama shirt. I wonder what the theme is: .... Like the Eurasian continent? (LOL)
It certainly has an ethnic feel, but also a Japanese atmosphere.
tailThis obi was made in Iran and is what we call an antique. I'm collecting them little by little now. It is cheaper than buying a belt, and the thing itself is interesting. The "Dannerfield" I chose is made of reddish leather, so I actually picked up the color of the boots by the color of the stitching on the edge of the belt and the color of the stones on the silver accessory. I happened to meet a craftsman today who makes zori with this outfit, and he complimented me on my "nice outfit.
What do you think makes "Danner Field" so great?
tailI have always been attracted to American gear fashion or function-based design. The "Danner Field" has a design for function, such as the shape of the backstay and the construction of the shoe tongue to prevent water and mud from getting in. It's not cool, but it's cool.
Functional beauty is exactly the right word for these boots.
tailAs a designer, it is a great learning experience to be able to live surrounded by such things. For example, some of the items designed by high-brand designers with a priority on looks may look good, but they may not be useful for daily wear. But with these boots, you don't have to worry about that. These boots are just right for everyday use.

The color of the stone and the stitching color pick up the color and add a sense of unity.
The most eye-catching obi in Ozaki's coordination is an antique obi made in Iran. I wore the obi as a belt to adjust the hem length of the shirt. In fact, I chose the color of the stitching on the obi and the stones of the Indian jewelry with the reddish brown of Dannerfield in mind. The secret of the free and unified coordination seems to lie in the attention to detail.

Born in 1980, designer. He joined a major boutique as a buyer after returning to Japan, participated in the launch of "FilMelange" in 2007, and launched "SUN/kakke" in 2011. He is also active as a designer for "Outdoor Products.

vital pointAfter graduating from Bunka Fashion College, I wanted to work in the fashion industry, but if I got a job at a brand, I would have to wear only that brand's clothes. At the time, I wanted to wear a wider variety of clothes, so I joined a shoe import company because I thought I could wear what I wanted. I didn't get into the company because I liked shoes, so my motives were rather impure (laughs).
How did you feel when you actually entered the shoe industry?
vital pointAs I come into contact with shoes every day, I naturally fall in love with them, and I gradually come to understand the good, bad, and appealing qualities of shoes. I have worn many kinds of shoes, and I am just now interested in mountain boots. Of course, I have a few pairs of Danner boots.
What is your impression of "Dannerfield" from the viewpoint of Mr. Sekiguchi, who has been exposed to various kinds of shoes?
vital pointI think the "Danner Field" is a boot that is easier to incorporate into fashion than other mountain boots. The last is not too wide and sharp, and I think it is an exquisite wooden form that does not feel tight when you put your foot into it, even though it has a sense of hold. The protrusion of the cuff is also small, and the black model in particular has an urban impression, so I think it is easy to match with other than a direct outdoor coordination.
I wasn't really aware of it, but they are certainly sharper than other mountain boots.
vital pointAlso, since even the top portion is dove-tailed, it is nice that the hem does not get caught easily when worn with wide pants. And, whether it is the material of the sole or the sock-like Gore-Tex booties, the cushioning is excellent and comfortable, so I would like to wear them actively in my daily life. If I were working for a shoe agency and had to put a price on them, I would probably charge around 40,000-50,000 yen for them. I think these boots are that good.
Please tell us about today's coordination.
vital pointTo retain the outdoor atmosphere, we incorporated outdoor items such as an anorak parka and fleece, while keeping an urban look in mind. The parka is nylon, and the fleece is a natural material made of wool 100%. I think these boots have a wide openness to accept items made of different materials. You can choose either classic or high-tech, but today, I dared to incorporate both tastes.
Dannerfield is also a combination of natural leather and GORE-TEX, and maybe that's why it matches with any material or taste.
vital pointThat is exactly right. I did not choose today's coordinate aiming for that, but it may be only "Danner Field" that makes me want to dress freely. I think these boots are adaptable to a wide range of styles, not just outdoor styles.

The tops have a strong outdoor feel, while the wide silhouette slacks and stole give it a more street fashion feel. By the way, the stole is from "Sankakke," for which Mr. Ozaki is the designer.

Fumiya Sekiguchi
Born in 1986. After graduating from Bunka Fashion College, he joined an import agency handling foreign brand shoes as a sales and buyer. 2015 he joined FilMelange, a cut-and-sew brand with a made-in-Japan theme. He became the brand's third director this year.
