HUAWEI's "HUAWEI nova 3" ( and nova 3), with a camera function that recognizes the subject and scene and sets the optimal shooting mode, can be set up quickly and shoot quickly... so you never miss a moment. In other words, you can take a picture with the same momentum of wanting to take a picture. Chim↑Pom comes to mind as an artist (group) that evokes such "momentum. Of course, all of their works are created against the backdrop of a careful concept, but sometimes there is an illusion that the work was created out of momentum. This may be because we sense the "happening nature" of installation works created by involving the audience and the "spontaneity" of the artists themselves. Chim↑Pom Erii sublimates the "ordinary" into the "extraordinary" by using herself as the motif of her works, such as holding a party and demonstration called a wedding reception. About Photography/How does the smartphone camera affect the artist, along with photos taken by Mr. Erii himself.

eli

Chim↑Pom is a group of contemporary artists who have created many works that have become the talk of the town both in Japan and abroad due to their strong link to the current times and society. Chim↑Pom "Grand Opening" at ANOMALY on the 4th floor of the Complex.

. It's better for the photos to remain than to disappear.

The camera performance of smartphones is constantly evolving, and many high-level photos are uploaded to social networking services that are indistinguishable from those of professionals. In the first place, do artists have a division between the "ordinary" and the "extraordinary"?

eliNo, I don't. . . I take a great number of pictures. I have 103,912 pictures on my phone right now (check the number). . since 2014, right . 7,285 videos. This could be a work of art, but I don't have anything to look back on, so I can say that all of them are trash. . but I'm definitely making artwork that I want to keep, and it's better for the photos to remain than to disappear.

. It is typical of Erii that he is not interested in the number of pictures taken, but in the pictures themselves.

eli. As with photography, any work of art is not guaranteed to survive. It may be lost due to earthquakes or natural disasters, and art must be very strong as a work of art to survive. Even if one work is thought to be better than the other, the other work may be bought by someone else and remain. . Even though there is a part of us that is left to fate, there is nothing better than taking pictures and leaving them behind for now.

eliI think it should be beautiful to upload to social media, but just because I took a beautiful picture doesn't mean that I'm not a fan of Insta (Elly's installationsI don't put everything up on my website. Sometimes I upload a photo because I want people to see it, even though I know it will never be interesting to anyone and won't get any "likes. If I wanted to retouch a picture, I could go on and on forever, so I feel comfortable uploading it as I took it.

. not to lower the heat of the moment you want to capture.

For example, you can visit an Instagram-worthy spot, decide on an angle, retouch it, and so on. It is true that there is no limit to the amount of work that can be done after the photo is taken. It can be fun, but at the same time, it can also be a burden.

eliAfter using the nova 3, I thought that this in-camera (selfie camera) has an AI function, for example, when you take a selfie of yourself, it recognizes the background and automatically makes the best settings. Also, the beauty correction is great because it automatically goes in as well. Even if everyone says, "Let's go!" when they want to take a picture together, the girls are actually very fast at starting up the correction app, but in that one second of starting up the app, their enthusiasm for the "Let's go" moment drops. That time is wasted, and in some small way, it is a loss of life (laughs). It's very convenient that the app automatically corrects for beauty and takes a beautiful picture.

The nova 3 has two in-cameras and two out-cameras . Each is equipped with a double-lens AI camera, which automatically recognizes portraits, food, landscapes, dogs, and even cats, and automatically selects the best mode for them. All you have to do is release the shutter and the camera will produce high quality photos without the need to process them yourself or change the shooting mode.

. not to lower the heat of the moment you want to capture.

Even for people like Erii, who "likes the act of releasing the shutter more than the content of the shot," and who "touches the phone all the time, so the battery runs out quickly," the nova 3, with its large 3750mAh battery and support for quick charging using the included charger, has the advantage of freeing them from the hassle of running out of juice. The nova 3 has the advantage of freeing you from the hassle of running out of charge.

Unlocking features such as facial recognition and fingerprint recognition (even if the process takes less than a second!) It would reduce the loss of life.

However, what is the kind of photograph that one would want to take or would take reflexively, even to the extent of cutting down on loss? For example, in the case of Chim↑Pom's work, I can think of a moment when one would reflexively take a picture, such as when a person witnesses the guerrilla action "BLACK OF DEATH" using crows. In order not to miss the moment you want to capture, you want to minimize the time and effort before shooting as much as possible.

eliWhen the big earthquake occurred, I was in the Bic Camera on the fourth floor of the building with Motomu Inaoka. I didn't have a proper camera at the time, so I used the camera on my phone to take pictures of the people around us who were in a hurry. I didn't have a proper camera at the time, so I was taking pictures with the camera on my phone. It's not that this directly led to my work, but it was something that I could only capture in that split second.

The camera on the phone to take all the shots.

eli(I take pictures of anything that happens in front of my eyes (whether intentionally or unintentionally). This is also connected to the fact that, in my case, "all the photos I take are garbage. I don't think there is a higher or lower level in the content of my photos, and even if I do take a photo, I can erase it later, so I guess I have the spirit of "just take as many as I can. On the other hand, Chim↑Pom's work is not only reflective or happening, but also has a clear picture of what is expected to be completed in every corner. I calculate what I need from there, so there is no change in the form of the final product.

Incidentally, the aforementioned wedding reception demonstration "Love is Over" by Erii (Chim↑Pom) is made up of records of many participants, both famous and unknown, including Kishin Shinoyama. In addition, the number of exhibits that can be photographed has begun to increase, and there are many opportunities for audiences to turn their cameras on the works, whether installation/live/three-dimensional.

eliBefore, it was prohibited to take pictures, wasn't it? I used to go to art museums and wonder why I wasn't allowed to take pictures. So, I want people to take a lot of pictures at Chim↑Pom's exhibitions, and if you want, I want those pictures too. When I ask people to send me photos on Twitter, they all send them. Some are taken with SLR cameras, while others are taken with smartphones and are really blurry (laughs). (Laughs.) When I look at the photos sent to me, I realize that the way we look at things is generally the same. Most of them are taken from the same place.

I love the works of an artist named Sato Makoto. I can tell just by looking at the lines of his drawings that it's Makoto! I can tell just by looking at the lines. But now that I think about it again, I realize that in photography, too, it's not a habit of mine, but it's a way of looking at things from a particular point of view, and that's what makes it unique to that person. Even a picture of a wedding demo, you can tell who took it.

The photos in this article were taken by Erii using nova 3, but the scenes of enjoying Kabuki and setting up the Kabuki theater can be considered "extraordinary" from an artist's perspective. With the nova 3 equipped with an AI camera, you may be able to capture your everyday life as a more special moment.

Incidentally, the nova 3 also has a 6.3-inch full-view display, a large screen with beautiful images. Erii also says that he now puts several layers of glass sheets on the screen of his smartphone because "I used to drop my phone and the display screen would break all the time. To avoid such tragedies, nova 3 is designed with 3D glass curves to fit the hand and make it easy to hold.
