The strongest standard reborn by Studio Oribe, a brand that only makes standard items.

Feautring STUDIO ORIBE

Studio Oribe, a brand that only produces classic products, has reincarnated its strongest standard.

What image does the word "classic" conjure up in your mind? It is something that cannot be created intentionally, and can only become a standard when there are years of accumulated experience and proof that it has been loved for a long time. STUDIO Oribe" is a brand that deals only with standard items. While trends change in various ways, the brand has been continuously making and selling five models of pants and other items for 10 years since 2009. In 2019, the brand has decided to make minor changes while keeping the original models, and re-launch the five new models as "Oribe's new standard" pants. We spoke with people who are familiar with Oribe about the process that led to this decision and the appeal of the new standard.

Rather than striving to create something new
We will make an effort to communicate what we have created.

Masayoshi Shiotani (photo left), the representative of Studio Oribe and in charge of planning, jokingly says, "To put it another way, we started this project in order to get Mr. Suzuki's factory running. (photo on the right), another partner, Terunaga Suzuki, who is also in charge of production, squints at him with a friendly smile. At that time, my father's sewing factory went bankrupt," Masayoshi said. We had some ideas for what we wanted to make and what we wanted to do. Well, the timing was right.

Studio Oribe" started as an everyday wear brand in 1999. Each season, the company was planning and producing a large number of items, as if they were enjoying the rush of the season.

From there, time passed and their ideas gradually changed. In 2009, exactly 10 years later, they decided to start a new business. They decided to keep only five standard styles (four pants and one jacket), saying, "We want to value the effort to pass on our creations so that people will wear them more than the effort to create new ones.

Not with someone somewhere far away.
The quality of manufacturing , done with close relatives.

Mr. Suzuki's family owns a sewing factory specializing in pants. With the ease of family members, they are always ready to share their own ideas. Mr. Suzuki's father, Tsuneo, (yes, he is a famous sewing machine enthusiast in the industry), responds with his skills, ideas, and ever-increasing number of sewing machines. He is a well-known sewing machine enthusiast in the industry. "Even if I give you the same pattern, there is a big difference depending on how ingenious and thoughtful you are in your sewing. In fact, my father is still thinking about how to make it fast, easy, beautiful, and strong. He still thinks about it.

The direct and close communication that takes place in the "here and now," not with someone far away. Quality is ensured because we have overcome many problems. We are here today because we understood each other and cooperated with each other at all times. When Mr. Shiotani said, "If we had gone to someone else, we might have been turned down," Mr. Suzuki said, "This is the kind of work that money can't buy. Mr. Suzuki added, "Money can't buy this kind of thing.

People who buy many pairs of the same pants all the time.
How credit builds up.

Before Mr. Shiotani started Studio Oribe, he ran the select store "JAMES" in his hometown of Niigata. The store manager, Masahiro Maruyama, has sold more Studio Oribe pants than he can count. Everyone buys a lot of pants," he said. People buy a lot of pants, all different colors, seven pairs at the most. When they come to the store and we don't have them in stock, their disappointment is incredible. They have built up a lot of trust.

What was interesting was that some customers kept wearing the same person in different sizes. Clothes also change after 10 years. Even the same pants look different depending on the time period. I see. We shouldn't just assume that 'this person is this size' either.

Mr. Aoyagi, owner of GOODLUCK COFFEE next to James in Nagaoka City, is another longtime fan of Studio Oribe's pants. They are clean and simple, but not too tight and playful. They are stretchy, so they are easy to move in, and I don't feel any stress when I am working. Also, I can wear them to formal occasions, but not to a suit, so they appear quite often.

No choice of field,
Duality that can be worn both at home and outside.

Originally an apparel planner and sales representative, he has since produced his own original bags. Mr. Tsukahara of "BALLISTICS," which now expands its business to camping gear and goods, tried on a pair of "climbing pants" from "Studio Oribe" and saw their potential for camping and outdoor use.

." "When you're camping, that's when you can wear them to bed. But they are also comfortable when you go out to eat with a shirt on. I think people are looking for something that can be worn both at home and out of the house, something that can be worn in any field, and something that gives them a good feeling. Buying in vogue is fun, but it can also be tiring. Instead, it is better for one's mental health to always wear what one has decided on and keep buying more. Now if only there was some kind of manufacturing support for it."

First, there's the purpose of having fun.
Buying clothes .

Rather than buying clothes for no purpose, I feel that clothes that have a specific purpose, such as going camping or riding a bike for fun, have a more realistic feel and are more suited to Studio Oribe," he said. As an answer to this question, Shioya has added denim pants to his regular lineup.

. "I feel like wearing denim when I go on a picnic on my day off, and as long as I wear clean shoes, I can go to an important event or party. Dress-casual style is surprisingly the most comfortable.

In fact, these denim pants were previously sold under the brand "delicous," which Mr. Shiotani has been working on in tandem with Oribe. However, there was always the problem of "they look good on this person, but they don't look good on another person. To tell the truth, everyone has a different body type and taste. It is extremely difficult to create a "standard item" for everyone. After repeated improvements, we finally came up with something that we could be confident in.

The silhouette is slim but not tight, with a relaxed tapered look. The silhouette is slim but not tight, with a relaxed tapered look. I think we have created a beautiful denim that is timeless and can be worn by anyone, and that is uniquely ours.

On this day, the whole family put on denim and headed out to a nearby park with a view of the ocean. . making and drinking coffee, and dealing with her daughter, who was a tomboy at best. Mr. Shiotani smiled a soft, round smile that he had never shown at any of these occasions. We want to make this a standard that we can say, "Wear these for that," while proposing something fun from our point of view," and it was a new beginning for a new standard.
