monessay ─ because of the change of season.

Toshiyuki Sai, Publisher of HOUYHNHNM and Editor-in-Chief of HOUYHNHNM Unplugged, will be writing a Series called "monessay. It is an essay through objects, so it is called "monessay." There is no twist to it, but it is not a poop either. The column that had been Series in a certain magazine for quite a long time has been discontinued, and we are starting a new column in HOUYHNHNM with a new look. This time, I'm going to show you a pair of NIKE's tech fleece pants.

No. 23 Because the Seasons Are Changing

young (animal)In the spring of 2012, Buddhist memorial services and other mourning events will continue.

that (someone or something distant from both speaker and listener, or situation unfamiliar to both speaker and listener)The reason for this is the sudden passing of M, who was a member of our sales staff. He complained of poor health from the end of last summer, was hospitalized in the fall, and passed away this winter. We are sorry and shocked to hear of his passing.

last (year)My mother passed away in the spring of 2006. She was very old and almost died of old age. It is a little regrettable that I could not be there for her final moments because I live in a provincial city, but I can say that she passed away peacefully in her sleep.

just (e.g. "just try it")The anniversary of the anniversary is just around the corner.

last (year)I bought a new black suit for this funeral in 1964. The previous suit had been acquired many years ago and was a bit old-school in shape.

springThe suit is made of plain weave summer wool and half-lined, so that it can be used for three seasons from spring to fall. Somehow, I got rid of my winter duskin black suit at that time.

sacrificing to create a shortage of liberties, then capturing (in the game of go)The head staff needed to wear winter clothes since it was in the middle of a cold February, but I didn't have time and was allowed to attend in that suit, which was a combination of the two. Surprisingly, I didn't feel the cold, or rather, I didn't feel it at all.

young (animal)In the same place, everyone wears the same black suit. If you look closely, you can see that they are all wearing something slightly different, but roughly speaking, they are all wearing the same thing.

reverseRecently, at weddings, not everyone is wearing a black suit and white tie, but some men are also dressing up in a way that is just on the edge of what is socially acceptable.

learningI had been thinking that this kind of ceremony would be the only time I would have the opportunity to dress like everyone else since I left school.

Japanese dock (plant) (Rumex japonicus)However, there are some items that I have been strangely wearing with friends and acquaintances lately. This is a situation that I am not quite happy about.

that (someone or something distant from both speaker and listener, or situation unfamiliar to both speaker and listener)The "Nike" Tech Fleece pants are a perfect example of this.

giThe fact that the jeans cover the body is forgivable, but the unique silhouettes of the garments do not allow for a subtle atmosphere.

-ist (used after a noun indicating someone's occupation, pursuits, disposition, etc.)It is not this gray, but black.

last ... (e.g. "last April")I got them in 2006 and wore them carefully because they were worn out a lot, but they are still being sold this year, so they are quite a popular item. That's a lot of people.

streetMany people wear these when they walk around the city. When I went to Shanghai in winter, the guy who showed me around was wearing these too. A bit uncool.

andHowever, I like the thin silhouette, which is comfortable to wear and looks reasonably modern. Young people are shifting to big silhouettes, but I don't like the fact that they continue to insist on thin silhouettes because it makes me feel like an old person.

light (e.g. colour, color)As one might expect from a fashion professional, at a recent wake, some people were wearing black suits and sneakers or black jeans.

comeThere was no one wearing a black tech fleece, but I thought that it was a good time to be wearing one.
