BAYCREW'S FESTIVAL IN KYOTO

Why BAYCREW'S is doing festivals locally in the region.

Celebrating the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Bay Cruise Group, "Bay Cruise Fest" is a special event held in Nagoya, Kyoto, Sendai, and Fukuoka, and the first event, held in Nagoya in August, was a great success. On October 5, the event moved to Arashiyama, Kyoto, for the second edition. The venue, which featured not only Bay Cruise brand stores, but also a number of local stores, attracted a large number of highly sensitive customers. We report here on the festival, which was a condensed version of the Kyoto festival, with ingenious contents based on the theme of "fashion.

Cityscape + People + Things. The overflowing Kyoto culture.

Katsura River flows at the foot of Arashiyama. You can feel Kyoto in this tasteful scenery.

The venue chosen for the second event was Horinji Temple in Kyoto. From the nearby Wataratsuki Bridge, houseboats proceed here and there with Arashiyama in the background , a true taste of Kyoto.

Kyoto is a city where fashion culture has taken root since long ago, so much so that it is called "Kyoto's Kimonodare. What these local organizers showed us at the "fashion" themed festival was a new way of "kimono-doraku," which does not mean "not sparing money on clothes," as the saying goes. It was a new way of being a kimono enthusiast.

A large "BAYCREW'S FESTIVAL" lantern welcomes visitors.
A sign reading "Not Smart, But Creative," the theme of the Bay Cruise festival, was displayed at Horinji Temple.

Despite the rainy forecast, the day was blessed with clear skies, and the venue, located on a hill overlooking Arashiyama, was a perfect location with clear air. Visitors were already lined up before the opening time of 11:00 a.m., and many more continued to arrive, making the event very lively.

In addition to the Bay Cruise brand, stores in the Kansai area lined up at the booths. The event was crowded with many visitors.

The first thing that caught my attention was the booths. There was a workshop by Kojima Shoten, a Kyoto lantern maker, and art books and zines carefully selected by Yui Books, a Kyoto-based bookstore, among others.

Food and workshops were also available. The shooting in the photo is a service for purchasers.
This kind of recreation unique to festivals is fun and uplifting!

Other highlights include an auction of furniture exclusive to the venue, a market and food unique to BAYCREW'S.

There was also a "fashion target shooting" where you could win up to 200,000 yen worth of items by trying your hand at target shooting with your purchase receipt. There were also a number of booths that were both hands-on and exclusive to the area, such as the "Fashion Shootout" where visitors could try their hand at target practice with their purchase receipts and win items worth up to 200,000 yen.

The DJs who will be entertaining the festival are truly spectacular.
In addition to the above, tofubeats, KENNY & AKUN from SPiCYSOL, DJ HASEBE, and many others will also be playing, and the audience is excited to hear them.

The top performers on the stage set up at the venue were titled MANZAI SHOW, and the opening act was three young manzai artists from the Kansai region and the next generation, Rough Dimensional, Kimidori, and Emperor. On the stage that followed, fashionable music enlivened the audience.

Many artists participated, including tofubeats and Licaxxx, who have been featured at numerous festivals and events, as well as Shuya Okino, known as the brothers' DJ unit Kyoto Jazz Massive, and KENNY of SPiCYSOL, who gained attention in Terrace House. Visitors swayed with beer in their hands as they watched the sun set over Kyoto, enveloped by the music of these artists. It is a time that only a festival can offer.

A mysterious fashion show created by temples and shrines at night.

As the sun went down, people gathered in the center of the precinct for the fashion show, the highlight of the festival. There were not only adults and children, but also elderly people and foreigners here and there.

When the show finally started, a total of 30 models including Kyohei Mitsune, Yu Hirukawa, and Marie Saramari took the stage one after another on the runway of stone steps that were fantastically lit up in the dark precincts of the temple. Dressed in the new collections of the Bay Cruise brand, they walked toward the main hall of the temple, a mysterious sight that is usually hard to see.

As the models gathered in the main hall, which was lit up with neon lights with the main theme of the entire festival, "Not Smart, But Creative," visitors were more and more glued to the stage. Surrounded by trees, the fashion show was held in a uniquely serene setting, and the stage was fresh with a sense of Kyoto's character as well.
