I first became interested in the outdoors when I was an assistant. My mentor often worked for magazines that dealt with outdoor fashion, so I had a lot of opportunities to come into contact with functional clothing and gear. However, just by looking at them, I didn't really know how useful they actually were. So, after I became independent, I learned how to use them by going camping myself, and I got more and more involved in the world. Now my house is already full of camping gear (laughs).
What kind of stylist did you want to be? When asked, "What kind of stylist did you want to be?" Kondo says, "I wanted to be able to propose not only fashion but also lifestyle. In addition to styling models for magazines, Kondo also keeps an eye out for items other than clothing, such as introducing outdoor gear, which he then introduces in the media.
I wanted to convey the culture and lifestyle behind the fashion as well as the fashion. Stylists who pursue fashion alone are cool, but I went to an interior design school when I was a student, so I was drawn to fashion that is a part of daily life. One of the things that attracted me to fashion was the outdoors.
