A creative way to combine music and design.
Graphpaper x POET MEETS DUBWISE

A creative way to combine music and design.

Graphpaper" accurately captures the standards of the times and expresses them through high-quality craftsmanship. To celebrate the 5th anniversary of the opening of its flagship store, Graphpaper Aoyama, the brand collaborated with "Poet Meets Dubwise," a music-based creation company. Five T-shirts were produced. The body is carefully woven on a circular suspension knitting machine, and poetic English words are printed on the fabric. We interviewed the key person behind this project, Mr. Noriharu Shimoda, aka "Silent Poets," at "Little Nap Coffee" in Tomigaya, where the two brands met. What does Mr. Shimoda, who works in music and design, envision for the creative process?

POET MEETS DUBWISE with SILENT POETS ari.

You mentioned earlier that "[POET MEETS DUBWISE] is like the sales of SILENT POETS. You once said that "music is influenced by movies," but what about graphics?

Shimoda:Graphics are similar to music. I am often inspired by music and movies.

. So your music is the source of your graphics?

Shimoda:In my case, the way I make music is a little different from the way other musicians do, and is more like designing. This may be the similarity with graphics. Oil paintings and paintings are created over a long period of time, using techniques such as drawing a base and creating colors with paints. However, a design can be created simply by dotting on a canvas. Sometimes I start by pressing a keyboard from scratch, and sometimes I start with a sampling and think about how to expand it.

Do you feel like you are adding to it and subtracting from it to make it complete?

Shimoda:Yes . We may often go toward a somewhat vague image.

Lastly, do you have any thoughts on your musical career?

Shimoda:I am in the process of working on my next piece. I would like to have all the work done by the end of this year and release it in the first half of next year, but I'm not sure how that will turn out yet (laughs).

I know it's hard to say since it's not finished yet, but what do you think it's going to be about?

Shimoda:I have been working on it since the end of last year, and the songs are based on what I was thinking about at the time, but the work is actually at a standstill under these circumstances. So I am not sure what the final output will be yet.

I hope that in parallel with the activities of "SILENT POETS," a new wind will blow through "POET MEETS DUBWISE.

Shimoda:I really do. For me, "POET MEETS DUBWISE" is only possible with "SILENT POETS," so I have to be playing music to make it work. Otherwise, it wouldn't be cool. . So, I want to release music at the best pace possible.
