Tissot Gentleman Automatic Japan Limited Edition

Stylist Ida brothers and Tissot watches.
The on and off times that the two of them carve out.

Switzerland is the holy land of watches, where prestigious and long-established watchmakers are competing with each other. Have you ever heard of Tissot? Tissot has a long history, founded in 1853. While incorporating technology into traditional craftsmanship, Tissot has been releasing innovative timepieces one after another that color the times. The Tissot Gentleman Automatic is the watch we are going to focus on here. The Tissot Gentleman Automatic is a Japan-only model with three hands and a beautiful deep gray dial. To find out what makes this watch so appealing, we chose two twins, Nobuyuki Ida and Masaaki Masaaki, who are both active as stylists. In their first media appearance together, we focused on their on and off-duty lives, and found out why Tissot is so popular.

Case 01

The leather straps are a comfortable "on" coordinate.

HOUYHNHNM: First of all, when you saw this watch, what kind of styling did you think it would go with?

Masaaki: I thought the elegant and simple design was very easy to wear. The case size is also just right at 40 mm. Moreover, it is convenient because it can be worn with either a leather strap or a metal bracelet. I think I can wear it as an extension of my everyday style.

Nobuyuki :This watch is very close to the watches I usually wear. I can wear it on any occasion.

Masaaki's "ON" Style

Masaaki used a Dries Van Noten jacket, vintage college sweatshirt, Levi's pants, Jalan Sliuaya boots, and a Loewe satchel for his on-duty look. The Tissot Gentleman Automatic blends in nicely. Incidentally, the photo was taken at Masaaki's new house, which he just moved into in July of this year. Nobuyuki often visits there to discuss his work.

HOUYHNHNM's: Let's start with Masaaki's coordination. What theme did you choose for your styling?

Masaaki: Nobu (Nobuyuki) and I were talking about the leather strap having a luxurious feel and matching with a dressy atmosphere, so I tried to create my own on-duty styling. I didn't really put a lot of effort into the coordination, though.

HOUYHNHNM's: What is the key to creating an on atmosphere without putting in a lot of effort?

Masaaki: I think it is important to include a beautiful item somewhere in the coordination, such as a jacket or a combination of a high-gauge knit and a shirt. . My basic rule is to mix old clothes with items that have a stiff atmosphere.

HOUYHNHNM's: Today, the Dries Van Noten jacket is the "on" factor.

Masaaki: Yes. And this is a jacket, but it looks like a jacotte, doesn't it . . Rather than a regular tailored jacket, I chose something that looks more mode-oriented and fashionable.

HOUYHNHNM's: You are mixing vintage "Levi's" staples and college sweatshirts into the mix.

Masaaki: My style is to mix classic or basic items with fashionable items.

HOUYHNHNM: What would be the effect of doing so?

Masaaki: It's difficult to explain specifically, but I guess it's something like a sense of slackness. . Of course, I want to suppress the mode atmosphere with basic items. Of course, there are days when I match items from other maison collections or wear clothes by young Japanese designers that I think are modern to give the impression that "I'm going to be fashionable today," but most people I consider fashionable have a certain sense of escapism.

HOUYHNHNM: Do you have any influences?

Masaaki: Of course, I am influenced by many people close to me, but for example, I think about what would happen if I wore what Vincent Gallo used to wear, or Kurt Cobain used to wear, in a modern way.

HOUYHNHNM's: So you reinterpret the culture of your own roots and give it a modern twist.

Masaaki: Yes. Masaaki: Yes, I think it would be more interesting to wear this jacket in this way if I were to wear it now. Something like that. Perhaps it is a very masculine or boyish way of choosing clothes.

Nobuyuki's "ON" Style

Nobuyuki used an "Allmost Black" coat, "Polo Ralph Lauren" pants, and "Clarks" boots for his on-style look. The coat is based on a British military hospital coat and is made of high-tech materials. The coat is based on a British military hospital coat and is made of high-tech materials. The Tissot Gentleman Automatic and classic pants are mixed with the coat to create a coordinated look that pursues exquisite lines. The location for the photo shoot was Neat House, which opened in September this year.

HOUYHNHNM's: This is the on style proposed by Nobuyuki.

Nobuyuki:My brother and I are similar in the way we think about how to dress for work. I don't wear jackets very often, but I still choose to wear a dressy shirt inside or a beautiful coat.

Masaaki: Really? Isn't it a knob on to make it look fashionable to the fullest?

Nobuyuki: In a manner of speaking, we are segregated by color tone, or perhaps, when we are on, we tend to wear more monotone clothes.

Masaaki: But today's outfit is clearly more subdued, isn't it? In Nobu's case, he wears clothes that have a distinctive design rather than color, and his outfits are often more outlandish than his off-duty outfits (laughs).

HOUYHNHNM: Is that so?

Nobuyuki: Some days I wear a women's dress or a jacket with a great shape. But today, I'm meeting Mr. Daishi Nishino of "NEET," so maybe I'm a bit formal (laughs). He is a senior colleague whom I respect and who always teaches me a lot about clothes.

HOUYHNHNM's: It's certainly a kick-ass coat today.

Nobuyuki:Even for military-style outerwear, I chose "All Most Black" because it is for work, and the form is very modern. When I'm off duty, I use a more basic style.

HOUYHNHNM's: I feel similar to Masaaki in the way that he pairs his vintage "Polo Ralph Lauren" pants and "Clarks" shoes with them.

Nobuyuki: Yes, that's right. It is a mix of current brands and brands that have been around for a long time. If everything is too neatly put together, it would look bad, so I also try to create a sense of omission somewhere.
