How would working people play? B-side snapshot of Shibuya PARCO.
~February Edition

A menu that is not posted on the wall of a machinuka restaurant may be delicious, a comedian may be better suited for radio than TV, or you may find a small corner of a person you have been reluctant to approach. It is the things that do not usually appear on the surface that hide the true essence of a thing. It has been a year since Shibuya PARCO opened, but I am sure that there are still unknown possibilities lying dormant. The big turret is supported by many tenants, and by extension, by the people who work there. In HOUYHNHNM and GIRL HOUYHNHNM, we will introduce such "people" = store clerks every month. You will surely want to go and meet them ♡.

SIDE-A

When did you start liking vintage clothing?

Ikeya:When you are in high school, you start working part-time and become a bit more fashionable. I didn't want to wear the same things as everyone else who was buying brand-name clothes, so I got into secondhand clothing because it was easy to afford. I saved up money from my part-time job and went to Harajuku.

What made you join Belverzin out of all the vintage clothing stores?

Ikeya:My hometown is in Shizuoka Prefecture, and I have been going to vintage clothing stores since I was in high school. When it was time to find a job, I had an image that clothes were a Tokyo thing, so I searched for the most famous vintage clothing stores in Tokyo and found "Berber Gin".

I was at the Harajuku store at first, but when I found out about the new store in Shibuya Parco, I volunteered to be the store manager.

Do you have a favorite style of fashion?

Ikeya:In the 90's, I think it was cool to wear vintage clothes all over and only have a Rolex on your arm, but I tend to wear a mixture of vintage and new clothes instead of vintage clothes all over. Like today, I wear shoes from "Saint Laurent" and vintage clothes on top.

Do you have any references?

Ikeya:There is one person in my senior year whom I admire because he is cool.[Claire] Alone.I met him about 5 years ago through a senior colleague, and he has been a great influence on me. I met him about five years ago through a senior colleague, and he has been a big influence on me. But he is so cool, and his clothes look really good on me. He really looks good no matter what he wears. When Mr. Kamiya wears his clothes, they become his clothes (laughs). He is like my mentor.

I understand that you have a video streaming service on YouTube.

Ikeya:I have been wanting to try YouTube for a long time. I started when I opened this store, and stopped for a while after I opened the online store due to a declared state of emergency, but I started again about 3 months ago.

I heard that you have been putting a lot of effort into this recently. I got the impression that your composition and planning are solid.

Ikeya:Thank you very much! I do about 90% of the planning, and the rest is done by the staff members. I like to talk, so I don't prepare a script or anything like that, but just talk freely about whatever I want to talk about.

I also use YouTube to make it easier for customers to talk to me. I once had a high school student tell me that he was afraid to talk to me until he actually met me (laughs). (Laughs.) Please feel free to talk to me!

Ikeya-san, do you watch YouTube yourself?

Ikeya:I don't watch much fashion-related YouTube, only the channel of Miku Asakura, a mixed martial artist. He does all sorts of interesting things, like sparring with a street brawler.

What do you do on your days off?

Ikeya:I recently started martial arts because of YouTube editing and also because of Mr. Asakura's YouTube page that you mentioned earlier! I am a man and I want to become stronger... I go to the gym once a week. I always come home with sore muscles all over, and I would like to compete in a match someday. But I don't want to get a scar on my face (laughs).

I would like to ask you about your gift-giving habits.

Ikeya:I ask because I want something that will make them happy. To be honest, I am not 100% happy to receive a surprise gift... I appreciate the sentiment, but (laughs).

Finally, what are your ambitions for this year?

Ikeya:I have been making clothes exclusively for this store, such as a mohair cardigan recently. I would like to make that again this year.

What exactly do you have in mind?

Ikeya:That's something you'll have to wait until you watch YouTube (laughs). We are planning to make a video of the process of making clothes, so please check it out as well. I plan to show how we select graphics and fabrics, and how we exchange opinions after receiving samples.

Mr. Ikeya chose a hand cream with a fragrance that would be appreciated by women.
