FRUIT OF THE LOOM × VINTAGE STYLIST

The friendly relationship between America's favorite vintage clothing stylist and Fruit of the Loom.

Fruit of the Loom is a long-established American cut-and-sew brand with a history of over 170 years. In Japan, the brand has been rebranded to fit modern people, lifestyles, and fashion, and has taken a new path as a lifestyle brand. For this issue, we asked Manabu Harada, a stylist known for his love of America and vintage clothing, to share his memories and fascination with "Fruit of the Loom" through the things he has seen and felt. From the introduction of personal items to self-styling with the latest items, here are some hints for enjoying Fruits of the Loom in your own way. Here are some hints on how to enjoy "Fruits of the Loom" in your own way.

It can be easily incorporated into one's lifestyle and enjoyed as one pleases. There is nothing better than that.

Tie-dye S/S T-shirt ¥5,500+TAX / Tie-dye L/S T-shirt ¥6,500+TAX
This item is perfect for early spring with its pale-toned tie-dye finish. The logo embroidery on the front chest portion adds a subtle accent. While it can of course be worn by itself, we recommend layering it for ease of dressing.

Harada-san's favorite items from this spring's new lineup. First, let's start with a tie-dye T-shirt in a light, spring-like hue.

Harada:If you look closely, you can see that the brand name is embroidered on the front in the same color as the dye. Wow, this is unexpected. The tie-dyeing is in the 70's taste, which is the current trend, and yet the embroidery has a bit of a 90's brand name feel to it.

T-shirts with logo graphics, which are rarely encountered in the vintage clothing market, are also available upon request. Both the body and the print are catchy with good colors. An embroidered patch of the fruit logo is attached to the left sleeve.

The product-dyed T-shirts with bold logo graphics are also a must-see.

Harada:Fruits have a colorful image, don't they? Even in the early 90s pack T-shirts that you can find in vintage clothing, you can find these flashy colors mixed in with the standard colors such as navy and white, but they are all in small sizes, and I could never find an XL size that I wanted to wear. So, I'm glad that they are releasing fun color variations like this, and that I can choose the size that best fits my outfits.

Printed BIG S/S T-shirt ¥4,500+TAX
A hamburger is printed on the front left chest, and its blueprint and material list are printed on the back. The choice of material and the big silhouette combine to make this a very American piece. In addition to this, a black and yellow version is also available.

So, this BIG S/S T-shirt is perfect for Mr. Harada, isn't it?

Harada:Yes, they are big! Big silhouettes are popular throughout the scene and can be worn by both men and women. The hamburger motif is also pop and American. This one can be worn alone or layered. These days, even children are wearing big silhouettes. My kids are the same way. Usually they don't like to wear items I recommend, but I think they'll be happy to wear this one (laughs).

It is true that these products have a catchy appeal that can be accepted by men and women of all ages. Also, in recent years, logo items have become as popular as pack T's.

Harada:Logos are very important, and it is rare to find a T-shirt from the 90s with a logo printed on it, but compared to other brands, there are only a few of them, so it is rare. It is a good thing that they are popular in order to promote the brand.

And while there are new parts, the production itself is standard.

Harada:I think that's what's so great about them. I also like the standard pack T-shirts and socks. Fruits are cute with the combination of the pack and logo. I love the sight of them piled up in large quantities at supermarkets and mass merchandisers.

As far as lifestyle items go, these socks have become a staple of the brand along with the T-shirts: four-color cello line tube socks, a six-pack of white crew socks, and a six-color set of socks. Short length line socks. They are all very easy to use.

It's just like everyday life with Fruit of the Loom, isn't it? And this time, we asked you to self-styling a product-dyed pullover hoodie from our new collection.

Product-dyed pullover parka ¥7,500+TAX
The material is, of course, cotton 100%, featuring a bright, fruity coloring and a light-ounce fabric thickness for easy layering. It is easy to wear in layers, and just looking at it should raise your spirits.

Harada:It's lighter than I expected and very comfortable. The back is not brushed, so it will be useful from now on. I chose my favorite green color this time, but other colors such as yellow, purple, and red are also good with vivid colors. Since it is spring, I wanted to wear something a little sporty, so I chose a '60s McGREGOR sports jacket, '30s U.S. Army jodhpurs, and New Balance "NEW BALANCE" feet. I paired them with New Balance's "MH1500. And the waist bag, which I have been promising for many years. Normally, I would be more flashy, but since it was "HOUYHNHNM," I decided to keep it chic (laughs).

The hoodie blends in naturally, and the use of color and item selection is very Harada-san-like.

Harada:There is a certain embarrassment in wearing standard things in a normal way. Of course, there is something cool about standard clothes, and I understand that, but I guess I am an innocent at heart. I want to dress in a way that makes me look easy, rough, and fun, rather than smart and classy. If I were to match it with my usual style, I would change the bottoms to motocross pants with loud colors and a changeover, and I would also go up about two sizes in the hoodie (I'm wearing a size L) and wear it as an outer layer.

It is one of the best parts of fashion to find your own way to enjoy it.

Harada:Fruit of the Loom" is not a fashion brand, as it originally started out selling fabrics and then became a mainstream underwear brand. But I think that's what makes it fun. I myself like vintage clothing because I can enjoy it in my own way, even though it may not be what was originally intended.

Lastly, do you have any tips on how to wear "Fruit of the Loom"?

Harada:Because this is casual everyday wear, I want people to try out easy inverted ways of wearing it. For example, try wearing a full-zip hoodie under the big silhouette T-shirt I mentioned earlier. Not only do we want to change things up by combining different tastes, but we also want to change the rules of how people wear clothes in the first place. I think that would be interesting. It is something that can be easily incorporated into one's lifestyle and enjoyed as one pleases. There is nothing better than that, so I would like people to enjoy it freely, just like Fruit of the Loom.
