Difference between water repellent and waterproof.

Let's take a look at the difference between waterproof and water-repellent. Waterproof means that water cannot enter, and in GORE-TEX® fabrics, the GORE-TEX® membrane acts as an ironclad membrane. Water repellency is the use of a water-repellent finish on the outer fabric to repel water on the surface of the garment. Water repellency is a function of the structure of the GORE-TEX® membrane, so it will last as long as the fabric is not torn. Water repellency, on the other hand, is an effect of the processing, so it gradually loses its effectiveness over time. In general, waterproofing requires rigorous testing to prove its effectiveness, so the value of waterproofing is waterproofing > water repellency.

Nanamica's GORE-TEX coats are tested repeatedly under various conditions, for example, by subjecting them to strong rain, to firmly verify their waterproofing properties. And even the stitching on the lining of the coat is carefully selected. Water can enter through even the smallest needle hole. Therefore, waterproof gore seam tape is applied to the seams to keep water out. Moreover, the original seam tape has an excellent appearance. This is functional beauty.

Did you know that GORE-TEX is made from a stone?　The Gore-Tex membrane is made from a thin film of a fluoropolymer called ePTFE, which is made from a natural ore called fluorite. Gore-Tex fabric was a stone. This is a trivia that will get a lot of "huh" when I show it to you.
