More important than taste is the number of drawers.
After the photo shoot, Endo's work continues. After hurriedly packing up, he plans to do research at an interior design store in Tokyo. The "Kangoo" is once again driven to its destination.
. I've been traveling almost exclusively by car since I was an assistant. Driving is a great way to refresh my mind. Even if I am working at home, it is easier to think of ideas when I am in the car than when I am sitting indoors, so I sometimes drive for a change.
Endo continues, "When driving a car, the scenery changes, and following these changes may activate other parts of the brain.
I get inspiration from the scenery I see in the city," he says. When I see people walking around, I can imagine things like, 'Let's make the next photo shoot in a room inhabited by people who look like that.
As we were talking, "Kangoo" arrived at its destination, the Tomigaya interior store ARKESTRA. This is a store where Mr. Endo often does research and leases items.
The store has a strong vintage feel, but the selection is very nice. They don't just simply promote vintage items, but also combine them with modern items, and they are very good at making suggestions. Also, they have pop-ups of domestic and international artists, and the fact that they match the space is very appealing.
During research, Mr. Endo looks at each item with a serious expression. She occasionally exchanges information with staff members to find styling ideas.
I think that knowing a lot of things and having a lot of drawers is the key to my work. When I call myself an interior stylist, people say, "You must have good taste," but I believe that having many drawers is more important than having good taste. That is why research is such an important part of my job. If I know what is in a particular store, I can respond to a sudden request for work.
