A huge utsuwa, a park created by Maruhiro.

Two years ago, it was just an empty lot. Maruhiro" is a pottery trading company in the town of Hasami, Nagasaki Prefecture, that plans and produces a variety of products. They took care of the vacant lot and created an utsuwa that was even larger than Hasami-ware. The utsuwa, named "HIROPPA," is a park where everyone can laugh and spend time together, where greenery is abundant and comfortable, and where there is just the right amount of stimulation. The "HIROPPA," which will open on October 1 in Hasami Town, is the result of 10 years of planning by the third generation of "Maruhiro" owner, Shohei Baba, who has redefined the concept of Hasami-ware with his imagination while respecting tradition. Let him show us around the park and talk about the highlights and his thoughts leading up to its opening.

. gently built up unevenness , and converted it into a playground.

Of course, there are still more gimmicks that children can play with and that will stimulate the senses of adults as well. First of all, I would like to introduce this large bench (?). First of all, I would like to introduce you to this large bench (?). It is a huge work by a well-known artist at MARUHIRO, but can you guess who it belongs to?

This is a work by Amsterdam artist Boris Telegen , known as "Delta". You don't often see such a large work by Delta. I received a blueprint from him and poured cement to create it, and it has five layers. I was going to paint over it, but it rained and the cement left some nice marks, so I decided to leave it as it is because it looks so cool. I'm looking forward to seeing how it will look over time."

On the other hand, in this turret-like structure, the raised lawn resembles a hill, and a ladder at the top of the hill provides a space for children to walk on a lattice of intersecting ropes, or lie down in a hammock-like space.

And surrounding the space, there are still thin and young trees planted. Baba says, "These are cherry trees.

. "We plan to decorate this turret with cherry blossoms in full bloom in the spring. Incidentally, we are also planting jugatsuzakura cherry trees in the park, which bloom in the fall, so that visitors can view the blossoms in both spring and fall. I hope the cherry blossoms will grow quickly~!

In the space next to the turret, the ground is designed to slope down toward the corner of the park. We are going to fill this space with water and make it look like a swimming pool," Baba said. We are also going to have Shuntaro (Takeuchi) draw a picture on the pool," Baba said. Mr. Takeuchi happened to be in Hasami on the day of the project. We immediately asked him about it. What kind of pictures will you draw?

. I plan to paint a moray eel. There were twists and turns in this story. Since Hasami does not have an ocean, we initially talked about painting something that would remind people of a beach here, but that was not enough, so we decided to paint sea creatures. But that wasn't enough, so we decided to paint a sea creature, and finally we settled on a moray eel. . It is a picture of a long moray eel undulating in the water. When filled with water, the lower half of the moray is hidden by the surface of the water, making it look like an island floating in the sea. I decided on this idea while sitting here with Babachan. He had been talking about wanting to create this park for 10 years, and it is amazing that he was able to make it a reality and keep up with the times. I really respect him!

Thus, even though there is no playground equipment such as seesaws or swings in the park, the park is designed to gently and gently build up the uneven terrain and to use that terrain as a playground.

. this little hill will also be playable as a slide. . And this red hole over here is a place for adults to sit and rest. We also have a sandbox.

. and the park is surrounded by a cement path all the way around, so that wheelchair users can get around the park at their leisure. We plan to open it up to skaters at certain times of the day, and we're setting up these poles for them to do their tricks."

There is another trick that children will enjoy at the back of the park. This place, filled with sunflowers, is a maze . This place is the fruit of Baba's and the chairman's sweat and tears.

. this was originally a field and rice paddies, and this is the sunflower field that I raised this summer, weeding and sowing seeds with my father every day from 6:00 in the morning. . It's a very long maze. Sunflowers only grow in the summer, so we plan to sell the seeds in the store during the off-season. Next summer we will open the maze, so stay tuned!"
