Can Nanga be my daily wear? Three people's ideas on how to wear it.
NANGA in MY LIFE

Can Nanga be my everyday clothes?
The three think of different ways to wear it.

The image of Nanga as an outdoor sleeping bag brand has long since faded. The brand, which continues to be active on the front lines, is now expanding its field to the city. Do you know what Nanga looks like for everyday wear? For this issue, we took three down jackets out into the cold weather to capture the daily lives of a stylist, an onigiri (rice ball) maker, and a garage maker. When they add Nanga to their wardrobes, a new style emerges.

01 An extension of your regular pants.

It was refreshing to see Ida-san wearing serious outdoor items.

Ida:This time, the theme was down pants for street wear, and these "takibi down pants" were very easy to match. It was like wearing cargo pants.

Is it by design?

Ida:Yes, they are. The down-pack stitching is not on the front, and combined with the cotton-like material, I think they are close to the pants I usually wear. At first, I was thinking of styling them with a one-tone, mode-oriented look, but I thought they could be worn casually as well.

The crotch is loose, but when the hem is velcroed, the silhouette tapers nicely. I usually wear outdoor-style clothes with retro designs or other edgy items as outfits, but the "Tavi Down Pants" fit in easily with my everyday outfits.

Mr. Ida, it seems that you have many opportunities to use down pants in your work, such as on location shoots.

Ida:It is true that I often wear thermal pants in winter, but I do not have many of them. Although they are functional and warm, there are not many pants with a design that I can incorporate into my daily wear. I have been checking many brands, including outdoor brands, for modern pants that don't disrupt my usual style.

How did you feel about the fit?

Ida:It doesn't have the stiffness that is often associated with down, and the wide gusset is easy to move around in. The waist is easy to adjust with the webbing belt, and the treatment around the belt is modern.

It's obvious, but it's actually quite warm when you put it on.

Ida:It is just warm enough to wear around town. It was comfortable and not too hot to wear in the car or indoors at many times.

What items are you wearing today?

Ida:I paired a Dries Van Noten jacket with an old cashmere knit and G.H. Bass loafers. I thought it would be just right to combine these natural materials with a pair of casual loafers. They are all authentic designs. I just changed the pants from my usual style.

I think it's a very user-friendly styling.

Ida:Yes, I do. The situation is different in summer and winter, but in my case, I don't change pants too often in winter, but enjoy various outfits by changing tops. I enjoy changing tops and styling them in various ways, with the pants as the main axis. These down pants are an extension of my regular pants.

What advice would you give me on what to look out for when wearing down pants in the city?

Ida:I paired it with a knit as an inner layer, but a black or other sweatshirt that is not too casual would also work. You could also wear a crisp, oversized shirt over a high-gauge turtle knit. You could also wear an elegant wool chester coat over it. Try adding "takibi down pants" as is to your daily outfits. I think you can wear them as if they were cargo pants or sweat pants.

TAKIBI DOWN PANTS ¥36,300 These down pants are made of an original cotton-like material that combines polyester and aramid, a flame-retardant material, to provide fire-resistance, which is a weak point of synthetic fibers. Nanga's proprietary UDD (ultra water-repellent down) is used for the down to prevent loss of heat retention due to water and moisture. The knee area is designed for ease of movement when bending over, sitting on a chair, or riding a bike. The inseam has a three-dimensional cut for ease of movement. Velcro hems allow you to change the silhouette. Available in four colors.
