Ochiai:The first time I met and talked with Mr. Okuyama was just about three years ago. We first met when Mr. Okuyama came to our office with a proposal that spelled out his thoughts on the project and a cart full of photo books.
Okuyama:For me, the city of Tokyo seemed to be moving forward strongly, undulating with a mixture of the new and the old, the original and the not-so-original. It is a style that I have not seen in any other city in the world, and I felt that I liked it because it was very Tokyo-like. I had the impression that "FACETASM" was a brand that embodied Tokyo, so much so that when I looked around the city, FACETASM clothes would come to mind. So I contacted them because I wanted to create something with Tokyo and "FACETASM" as its theme. When we first met, we talked about the idea of having people who embody Tokyo wear FACETASM's clothes in the city of Tokyo for a photo shoot.
Ochiai:I myself am from Tokyo, and I am often told that "FACETASM" is "Tokyo-like. However, I don't make clothes with "Tokyo-ness" in mind, so I take it as a compliment when people say that about my designs that come naturally. Especially when competing in collections overseas, I was proud to be called "Tokyo-like. That is why I agreed to this project because I thought it was a very meaningful thing for me and for FACETASM to consciously capture the Tokyo-ness of the city. I was also interested in the newness of our clothes when they are combined with the beautiful Tokyo scenery through the eyes of Mr. Okuyama, and it is rare to encounter a moment when people living in Tokyo today are wearing FACETASM's clothes. When I heard about this project, I intuitively felt that this would be a pleasant project that would bring smiles to everyone's faces.
