Asahiichi & KEBOZ guide you through a chic way to spend time in Kuramae.
GO TO EAST TOKYO!

Asahiichi & KEBOZ guide you through a chic way to spend time in Kuramae.

The perception that "Kuramae = café" is half right and half wrong. In the booming East Tokyo area, Kuramae stands out from the crowd and is now attracting a succession of up-and-coming stores with a rich individuality. While the traditional townscape remains, Kuramae continues to evolve day by day. We asked the two men of Asahiichi & KEBOZ, an izakaya and apparel store in the midst of this movement, to show us around their store and their favorite stores.

FOCUS1 "Mclean OLD FASHIONED DINER" Covering American food.

From here, the two of us will navigate you through three restaurants in Kuramae. The first restaurant we visited was "Mclean OLD FASHIONED DINER," a one-minute walk from "Asahiichi & KEBOZ. According to the two men, "This is the best hamburger shop in Kuramae! Not only do they like the taste, but they also like the atmosphere of the restaurant.

The concept of the interior is based on the classic "American diner. But if we tried to recreate that, it would look like cosplay, so we incorporated modern elements here and there. I painted the poured concrete white and put in marble tables. It's a space where nostalgia and freshness coexist," says the owner, Mr. Ochiai.

The specialty here is the "McHot Chili Cheeseburger" ordered by Kenbo. The homemade chili con carne seems to play an important role, and the flavor of the meat and the spiciness of the chili make it irresistible. There was a time when he ate it five or six times a week at most.

It seems that Mr. Ochiai has a family opinion about American food. "I prefer American food that can be eaten casually, rather than using a knife and fork. Like hamburgers, hot dogs, and sandwiches. The "Chicken over Rice" that Mr. Monzen ordered is also "McLean's" style, where the ketchup and white sauce on the chicken is mixed with the rice as much as possible, and you get a bold mouthful of it.

I thought it was more American to eat with sticky hands. That is why we only include dishes that are actually served locally in our menu, and we do not make anything unique to Japan. Just like the décor, we focus on how to modernize the old diner recipes.
