Fashion and sports. Where do they meet?

With the evolution of technology, the boundary between sportswear and fashion items has become blurred in recent years. On the other hand, the value of sportswear as an object is fundamentally different from that of fashion, which is designed to add color to everyday life, and sportswear, which is developed to achieve a clear objective. Why are these two things resonating with each other now? HOUYHNHNM's Hiroshi Yamamoto talks with Tadanao Matsuo of JOURNAL STANDARD and Keiji Kaneko of RESHOP, both of whom incorporate sportswear into their daily lives, about the current place where sportswear and fashion intersect. We also introduce Hoka Oneone's new shoes, which will be available at both stores.

What sporting items do you incorporate into your daily routine?

Yamamoto:Today, Matsuo-san and Kaneko-san have prepared sportswear and gear that each of them uses on a daily basis. Could you introduce them to us?

Matsuo:Yes, I am. Let's start with me. A down vest from Feathered Friends and a rain jacket from Tilac. Both have excellent functionality that has been cultivated in the outdoors, but at the same time they are fashionable enough to be incorporated into today's fashions without feeling out of place.

This is a backpack from . It is a simple backpack from the back, but it has a water bottle holder on the front of the shoulder straps, which comes in handy when running.

Kaneko:I would like to introduce an Arc'teryx rain jacket that I purchased several years ago and a Patagonia blouson that I have used for almost 20 years. The newest ones look too technical, while vintage ones look old-fashioned. My current mood is to pull out these older items and wear them.

These are the "LERC" running pants I mentioned earlier. The design was inspired by the military pants of the U.S. Army.

Yamamoto:It is interesting to see the tastes of the two of you. Let me close by saying a few words.

It's a belly band and hood. It is not fashionable at all (laughs). A scarf keeps my stomach warm and gives me a sense of security just by wearing it. For me, it is a winter necessity. The hood is called "Only Hood" and can be used as a neck warmer in addition to keeping out the wind and rain by simply putting it on. Both brands are made by Yama to Michi. I like the color and design as well as the functionality.
