The denim jacket was born along with five-pocket jeans and was initially used as workwear for coal miners and cowboys. In Japan, it was popular as a masculine and tough outerwear during the "hard amekaje" and "shibu-kaje" fashion trends that swept the country from the late 1980s to the 1990s, which is nostalgic for those who knew it at the time.

In the 1990s, denim jackets were worn in a tight, fitted style, but the 2021 style is to wear it in a loose-fitting silhouette. The item has a textured, used finish with masculine details throughout, so the key is to wear it like a cardigan and soften the ruggedness with pale colors and relaxed sweatpants. By neutralizing the strong American casual style with colors and materials, the presence of the denim jacket stands out.

As thongs (Levi's 506XX and 507XX size 46 or larger with a turn down the middle of the back) are popular in the vintage market, items with a larger silhouette, such as those with shoulders that fall down, are the target for denim jackets. The charm of American casual is that each shape has its own meaning and reason, so it is best to choose an item that has been upgraded with vintage details. The indigo color should not be a one-washed dark blue, but rather a slightly faded indigo with a bit of a bite to it, so that it can be worn without being too hard.
