Who do you look to for fashion?
seidai:I check out the Instagrams of people from overseas. I try to incorporate what I like there into my own style, and after repeating the process of "maybe that one doesn't work, maybe this one fits," I think I've finally established what I like recently.
What kind of brand is "adidas" to you?
seidai:I have an impression of sports, and I also have a big image of fashion. I think they have a good balance of function and design. I wear "Superstar" shoes on a regular basis, and I love "adidas" without any flattery, so I feel that I was drawn to this interview by various connections (laughs).
What are the key points of today's styling?
seidai:Superstar" is a simple design that can be worn with any outfit, but recently I've been in the mood for baggy pants, so I coordinated mainly with them this time.
The jersey top looks great on you.
seidai:This is also from the "Parlay" collection. I actually have a black jersey, but I like this sky blue color because it is also very spring-like. I would like to buy a pair of pants in the same color and walk around town in the set-up. I'll post the photos on my SNS someday, so please wait for me.
Today, you are wearing environmentally friendly sneakers made by "adidas Originals" and "Parley for the Oceans", an ocean conservation organization.
seidai:First of all, they are surprisingly light. And the insole is cork, so it absorbs the shock as you walk. I think it is important to have a sustainable background, but I like simple, classic designs. For me, "adidas" is "Superstar," and I've been familiar with it for a long time, so I feel comfortable with it.
Do you think the keyword "sustainable" has become a common word among the young people of Generation Z around you?
seidai:Of course, we see and hear about them, but many people may not know the true meaning of the words or the background behind them.
Sneakers made from upcycled plastic waste collected from beaches and seaside areas are used in some of your products. The more people who choose these shoes, the more we can help protect the environment.
seidai:It is a wonderful initiative. However, I think it is different if it is only environmentally friendly. If "cool" does not come first, people will not pick up a pair. In that sense, these sneakers are attractive because they have both in one pair.
Besides, I think the use of recycled materials in the "Superstar," the royal road of sneakers, is very significant for the future evolution of the sneaker scene.
Do you usually take the global environment into consideration?
seidai:I try not to buy too many plastic bottles. And what else... like wearing old clothes?
Yes, that is one action.
seidai:To be honest, I don't think about the environment when I buy vintage clothes. Like this "superstar," I buy it simply because I think it looks cool. Personally, I think it's just as good to be involved in sustainable efforts without even knowing it.
