MY G-SHOCK, filled with my favorite things, and the current mood and pure junk of the facetasm artist Hiromichi Ochiai.
My Mood and Little Monsters

MY G-SHOCK is packed with my favorite things.
Facetasm, Hiromichi Ochiai's current mood and pure junk.

MY G-SHOCK, a customization service that allows users to create their own personalized G-Shock, has collaborated with "FACETASM" to create a new model. This model is printed with the geometric motifs used in this season's collection. The designers can choose any combination of three colors: smoke blue, lime yellow, and white. What was the designer, Mr. Hiromichi Ochiai, thinking when he created this design? We asked him to tell us about the secret story behind the creation of the watch and to actually try out "MY G-SHOCK. What kind of item did he come up with?

To avoid sticking to one design, we added junk elements.

On the other hand, for this collaboration, Ochiai says, "I wanted to make it pop as much as possible.

I thought it would be really nice to be able to customize it. In addition to that, I wanted to create something accessory-like, something that would accentuate fashion. So I printed gradations of dots and geometric patterns, and made the belt loops colorful. But I felt like I was sticking to one design, so I wanted to add another element of junk.

A monster named Lek Lek Lek Aahi. He seems to be the only one with a name.

Then, Mr. Ochiai added a "junk element. It was a cute monster that Mr. Ochiai's son, now 6 years old, drew when he was 4 years old.

He was four years old and hadn't seen any cartoons yet, so he created this monster purely in his mind without any influences from other people. I think that by incorporating this picture, an interesting chemical reaction took place.

The monster drawn by the son appears on the dial when the light is turned on. This gimmick is both cute and romantic.

I thought children's drawings were fascinating. I had drawn about 10 monsters in total, and I chose two that I particularly liked. One of them was named "Lek Lek Arhey Monster. It's a cute name, isn't it? Now that I am six years old, I know all kinds of characters, so I can't draw them anymore, but this picture was really born from a pure heart. And isn't it kind of cool that the monster appears when you turn on the light?

Another thing we must not forget is the coloring. What did you have in mind when selecting the three colors: smoke blue, lime yellow, and white?

Smoke blue is a color I often use when collaborating with global brands, so it is a special color for me. Lime yellow is my favorite color for accents. I thought white or black would be basic, but I thought white would go well with the other two colors, so I tried to strike a balance. The belt loop is also a bold color. I wanted it to be a point of interest when the watch is worn on the wrist."
