How we spend our summer and 4 essentials for summer in Shibuya PARCO

I love summer. The cold beer tastes great, and the music festivals that are held only during this time of the year make me feel like floating around. Sometimes it's nice to work remotely while soaking up the sun on the balcony. What? Too hot to enjoy clothes? No, no, no, it's going to be hot no matter what you wear anyway, so the more fashionable you are, the better! And so, I made my way through the hot and sunny Shibuya area and ended up at Shibuya PARCO. I went in there to cool off for a while, and while I was in there, I made the rounds of the stores. We asked three staff members to tell us how they spend their summers and what they need. We bring you this report from the hottest spot in Shibuya, Tokyo.

VCM MARKET BOOTH" just opened in Shibuya Parco in February 2022.

Kato:Stores dealing in vintage clothing and vintage goods from all over Japan are gathered in this space to offer new values. The stores are scheduled to change regularly, and while I serve as the store manager, I also travel around the country to research and market the stores.

Kato-san, do you yourself usually wear vintage clothes?

Kato:Yes, I do. I especially love American casual wear, and it is always at the base of my styling.

What kind of clothes do you usually wear in the summer?

Kato:In summer, I generally wear T-shirts and shorts, and I especially like T-shirts with prints of music and movies, and I have quite a few different kinds of T-shirts. Today, I pulled out a few of them for the essentials shoot.

Thank you very much! Are these music print T-shirts directly from your favorite genre? What kind of music do you usually listen to?

Kato:Blues, funk, 90s hip-hop, abstract hip-hop, ambient, and amateur piano are my favorite genres. Recently, I have also been into radio, listening to Tatsuro Yamashita's "Sunday Songbook" as well as programs by Peter Barakan, Toshio Matsuura, Haruomi Hosono, and others, and shazam the songs I like and listen to them on ....... and I have been exposed to various kinds of music this summer as well.

It's summer. Do you go to music festivals and live concerts?

Kato:I haven't been to a festival yet, but recently I went to a DJ event with Calm and KRUSH, a live concert by singer-songwriter HIMI, and went to Liquid to see Kan Takagi's 60th birthday concert.

One of the essentials was selected at "mimi33 (4F)," a store specializing in earrings and pierced earrings that is a good friend and neighbor of VCM. Ms. Kato chose...

What else do you plan to do this summer?

Kato:Just recently, I started mountain climbing. The owner of my favorite bar in Koenji recommended it to me, and I was hooked. Before Corona, my usual summer routine was to go to the municipal swimming pool, burn off my body, and then go to a bar with red lanterns and have a drink.

Actually, I have recently started mountain climbing myself (laughs). (laughs) I have only climbed a few low mountains in the Kanto region. How many times have you climbed, Mr. Kato?

Kato:Wow - I see! What mountains do you recommend, please let me know! I've only climbed it 3 times, but what can I say, the view and the air are great.

I feel like I'm getting healthier in both body and mind.

Kato:Mr. Hosono said on the radio that people need to step on soil, not concrete, and it is true when I see people as old as 60 or 70 years old climbing up the mountain in good spirits.

What's the next mountain you plan to climb?

Kato:I would like to climb Mt. Gozaisho, which is located between Mie and Shiga prefectures!

Mr. Kato's summer essentials

Short-sleeved shirts are an item I often wear in the summer. I especially like shirts from around the 1960s, and this one is from Sears, which I bought at a vintage clothing store in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, because of the slap tag.
The perfume, which she recently started wearing for the first time since high school, is from the Seoul-based brand "Nonfiction. It's an item I can't live without now, just like I always carry a bandana with me every day," says Kato.
The new men's line "MR.mimi33" developed by "mimi33". Mr. Kato chose "MR.F118 (SV) ¥6,930," an ear cuff that can be worn casually.
4. a small selection of personal printed T's related to music and movies
