He made his acting debut in Takeshi Kitano's film "Kids Return" (1996), for which he won the "Japan Academy Award" for Best New Actor. He has appeared mainly in films, but also in TV dramas and commercials. In recent years, he has also been active as a photographer, shooting for fashion magazines, etc. He has also made a splash by directing and shooting stills himself for the short film "Sakura," which was released in 2021. A photo exhibition is scheduled to be held at "Marc Jacobs Omotesando" and "BOOKMARC" from September 21 to October 2 this year. The movie in which he appears, "One Thousand and One Nights," is scheduled to be released this fall.

Ando-san, what kind of clothes do you like?
Ando:In both photographs and in movies, I am always eager to wear outfits with nice designs and silhouettes, but I usually dress in rough clothes. In the past, I used to go to shoots wearing high-brand clothes. . Nowadays, I think it is more important to give a good performance as an actor or to have a beautiful frame for a photo shoot than to dress up nicely.
Do you get dressed up much?
Ando:Not very much. It's not that I dislike clothes by any means, but I'm more interested in beautifully embodying what I have in my head.
What did you think of ADAM ET ROPÉ's clothes this time around?
Ando:. There are a lot of clothes that are not very flashy, but are still very photogenic. The silhouettes are also very beautiful.

I think that in movies and TV dramas, you are playing a role in front of the camera, but in a still shoot like this, you are photographing Masanobu Ando himself, right? What do you think about in your mind when you are shooting stills?
Ando:I also like to shoot, so I look at the setting of the shoot, such as what kind of equipment they use, where the lights work, how they take advantage of natural light, and so on. . I am interested in taking pictures.
. When the shooting started, I was impressed that you said that you wanted the environment to be as private as possible with the cameraman.
Ando:. When there are so many different points of view, it's hard to know where to turn. . When there are so many points of view on a scene, I feel emotionally distracted. . When I photograph actresses, I try to share my feelings with them on a one-to-one basis. . Because that is what is captured on the lens and on the film. I think it is important for the lens to see you and for you to give back your feelings to the lens.
. By being one-on-one, you are able to capture the true side of the person.
Ando:Yes, that's right. I want to see that, and I want to bring that out.
. I guess that means your true side is exposed in this shoot as well, isn't it?
Ando:That's what's important.
