Vintage Soccer Wear Now.

Perhaps with the support of the 90's revival and the World Cup, vintage soccer uniforms and apparel have been attracting a lot of attention. For this issue, we visited "roster vintage," a vintage clothing store that stocks soccer goods from the past, with Shintaro Yuya, an actor who loves soccer, and Shunsaku, a stylist. The owner, Tatsuhito Ichinose, was our navigator, and the three of us talked about vintage soccer wear. In addition, we introduce three sample styles using items from "roster vintage.

Enjoy soccer wear as fashion.

. Now that we have heard about your soccer history, let's get down to business. In the past year or two, I think the number of people who wear vintage soccer uniforms and apparel has increased as a fashion trend.

Ichinose:Vintage clothing from the 90s is in vogue right now. I think that the unique silhouettes and designs of the 90s are particularly appealing to young people.

Yuya:The fact that tech-inspired fashion is in vogue nowadays and uniforms can be easily incorporated into such coordination may also have an impact.

How about you as a stylist, Shunsaku?

Shunsaku:Personally, I think the biggest catalyst was Gosha Rubchinskiy, and around 2017, when Gosha collaborated with adidas to produce a collection with a soccer motif, fashion lovers uniforms on the streets. . I think that's when soccer uniforms and jerseys started to be recognized as a fashion item.

I see. Each of you has a different point of view, which is interesting.

Yuya:I'm not the type of person who supports a particular team, so there is a part of me that wonders if it's okay to wear a uniform as a fashion statement. It's like wearing a van T. But I wear Adidas' "Samba" on a regular basis, and when I choose to wear it, I wear it to soccer. However, I do wear "Samba" by Adidas on a regular basis, and when I choose my clothes, I tend to look for things related to soccer.

What do you think of Mr. Ichinose's opinion?

Ichinose:Many of the people who come to the store wear uniforms because they have a cool design. Of course, I understand Yuya's opinion, but for me, I want people to enjoy it freely, separating it as a fashion item, just like choosing a T-shirt.

Shunsaku:. I am the type of person who often starts with things first, and then learns about the culture. For example, the jacket I am wearing right now is from Nottingham Forest, and if I like the design, it will be a good opportunity to look into Nottingham Forest. . So, even if you don't have a team you support, I think you should start by looking for items with designs you like.

By the way, what kind of items do you offer at "roster vintage"?

The interior of "roster vinatge" is filled with soccer goods.

Ichinose:Basically, what we sell are things from the 1990s. When we first started the store, our product lineup consisted mainly of uniforms, but now we carry more jackets, jerseys, and other apparel items that are easy to wear on the street.

Yuya:I know there are several stores that sell vintage uniforms , but it is amazing that they have these fashionable items.

. Indeed. Where do you get these items?

Ichinose:I have another friend who runs "roster vintage" with me. . I often buy from him when he goes to Europe on business. . I also sometimes find them in recycle stores, or I go to wholesale warehouses of vintage clothing.

Shunsaku:The great thing about "roster vintage" is that they have uniforms of rare players who were not active at all at the time or were only with the team for one year. The buyer likes tall strikers, and it's interesting that they have uniforms of players like Crouch and Hallisteas. There is no other store that makes selections from such a core perspective.

Yuya:It's interesting to see the color of the restaurant. Adult soccer fans, of course, but I think this space is also very appealing to children who love soccer. The posters on the wall are also nostalgic. . like the way they are folded because they are magazine supplements.

Shunsaku:This poster is reversible, so it's really hard to decide which side to put on the front (laughs).

Yuya:Yes, yes (laughs).

Q: Which team's items are most popular right now?

Ichinose:In proportion to the popularity of the league, the Premier League in general and Manchester City in particular are popular now. I prefer Serie A for my generation, but young people are definitely Premier League fans.

Shunsaku:When I was in elementary school, Serie A was the most popular....

Ichinose:It was a time when Milan and Juventus were strong, because in the 90s, Serie A was the top league in the world, and in fact, most of the items from that era are from Serie A. .

Shunsaku:Also, there were boot soccer wear like band T's. Similarly, there were many Serie A boots made in the 90's. In the 90's, there were several soccer shops around Suidobashi and Jimbocho, and those shops made boot merchandise. In the 90's, there were several soccer stores around Suidobashi and Jimbocho, and it seems that these stores made boot goods.
