OMEGA "SEAMASTER" : INDIVIDUAL BLUE

The ultimate color of the Seamaster. Two people sailing into the future and OMEGA watches.

Practicality, durability, innovation. A shape that fits every style. Of all the wristwatches available, the OMEGA Seamaster is the one that is most suited to the sea. The hard-core diver's watch was once reserved for men of the sea, but as time went by, its family grew and it came to be loved by a wide range of people in a wide range of fields. This year, the 75th anniversary of the Seamaster, the "Seamaster Summer Blue Collection" was launched, consisting of seven iconic pieces. Each of the blue-tinted dials is a different shade of color depending on its water-resistance, and their appearance is also nautical in nature. How did they feel and wear them as they steer their watches toward the future?

Your name, Keisei, uses the Chinese character for "blue. How did your parents feel when they named you that?

Riverbanks:It seems that he wanted them to live freely. The surname Kawahara also uses kanji characters related to nature. So I heard that he chose the name "Keisei," which combines "kei" for valley and "ao" for blue sky. Also, everyone in my family has the initials "KK. That's why my name starts with "K" (laughs). I really like it myself.

What do you associate with the color blue?

Riverbanks:I feel a very calm and relaxed mood. I like blue and black. I like deep blue, or the way the ocean changes from blue to black as it gets deeper and deeper. I always want to incorporate those colors into my fashion.

The "Ultra Deep" that you wore today is also a beautiful expression of the deep blue of the deep sea.

Riverbanks:The moment I saw some of the clocks they had prepared for me, I said, "I like this one!" (laughs). I thought the dial design had a calmness to it. The heavy construction also suits me now, and I felt a real sympathy for it.

Do you feel different when you put it on?

Riverbanks:I have to say, I do. It is often said that the quality of a piece of clothing depends on its price, but wearing a good piece of clothing makes you feel good. Clothes are no different. Designers put a lot of effort into their work, and craftsmen make the most of their skills, and the finished product may be expensive, but it is still different. In the case of fashion, watches are the best example of this. They are irreplaceable and create memories.

What is your impression of the OMEGA brand?

Riverbanks:When I was a competitive swimmer, I used OMEGA timing devices to measure my time at my last competition. So I actually feel very close to the brand, and it is a brand that I am familiar with. Since we were competing against each other to the nearest 0.01 second, the performance was amazing, and I think it is precisely because of OMEGA's technology that the competition is so fair.

Do you usually wear a watch?

Riverbanks:I used to wear a smartwatch, but it recently broke, so I've been using a watch I have at home, and it has reaffirmed my fascination with mechanical watches. There is something old-fashioned about it, something that makes me feel different when I wear it. However, I sometimes worry that I might bump it and break it at a moment's notice (laughs).

Ultra Deep" is made of "O-MEGA Steel," which is harder than normal steel, and is characterized by its superior strength.

Riverbanks:That's nice. Steel is also used in my prosthetic leg. It doesn't rust, it's sturdy, and it's very heavy. Usually, lighter is better, but I like the weight. In a sense, it may be useless, but I think that is where one's individuality resides. It is of course important to reduce weight and burden, but I think it is just as important to enjoy the wastefulness.

ULTRA DEEP
The "Ultra Deep" wristwatch set a world record for depth in 2019 in the Mariana Trench of the Northwest Pacific Ocean, the deepest place in the world. The series, which has been on general release for 22 years, boasts a water resistance of 6,000 meters, making it suitable for any field of activity. The case and bracelet are made of OMEGA's proprietary O-MEGA steel, which is known for its superior strength. The latest model is a special edition with the Challenger Abyss of the Mariana Trench on the deep blue dial.

Do you have anything in particular that you are conscious of when it comes to how you spend your time?

Riverbanks:I am conscious of following what I want to do at any given moment. If I want to make a video, I make a video; if I want to take a break, I take a break. I also cherish time with my family and friends. When I was a competitive swimmer, I had to limit my diet and cut back on playtime in order to improve my times.

When you were competing, was there anything you gained from stoically dedicating your time?

Riverbanks:I learned the importance of putting in the effort. I got good results by doing so, and the more I thought about swimming, the better I got. I think it is important to put that into my current job and work hard. My father worked in construction and my mother was a nurse. When I see them, I think how wonderful they are, and I feel grateful to them for raising me in spite of their busy schedules.

Do you plan to continue working as a model in the future?

Riverbanks:When I got my prosthetic leg four years ago, I had no idea what life would be like afterwards. I researched many things to relieve my anxiety, but I could not find a satisfactory answer. Now, I consider my prosthetic leg as an individuality, and I am communicating it to the world. I can tell people in the same situation as me that they can live a normal life. That is why I chose to become a model in order to broaden my horizons after trying out swimming. However, although I am enjoying it now, there are times when I wonder, "Is this really what I want? I am having fun, but there are times when I wonder, "Is this really what I want to do?

Have you actually received any feedback from your modeling and social networking activities?

Riverbanks:There are so many. I receive messages from people who have been injured. If I had only been a stoic swimmer, I would not have been able to reach so many people, so I am glad that I am a model. But I also wanted to challenge myself in new ways. I had a motorcycle accident that left me with an artificial leg, and I am thinking of getting my motorcycle license again. I have never seen anyone riding a motorcycle with a prosthetic leg, and I want to try something that other people don't do.

What is the source of your positive mindset?

Riverbanks:Maybe it's my personality (laughs). My parents have always affirmed what I wanted to do. I think that has had a great influence on me. So, first of all, I am grateful to my parents. I am also grateful to my friends who always play with me.
