I see (laughs). So, you had an image of the chinos that you had initially envisioned, but as you had conversations with them, that image kept changing?
Hori family:Yes . Kimutaku and Toyoetsu really only needed to be the first entry point, as long as it was common knowledge. It's like the theme of the "Laugh-In" show. I threw out those words and wondered how "TANAKA" would cook them up from there.
Tanaka:One word that came to mind while talking with Mr. Horike was "friendly.
Hori family:When Tanaka-san said these words, it became clear to me. I felt comfortable that I could leave some of the work to him.
Can you explain a little more about what you mean by "friendly"?
Kuboshita:. Simply put, it is "TANAKA for everyone.
Hori family:That was pretty much the watchword.
It's not so much that he's friendly, but that he's a good friend.
Tanaka:It is "TANAKA for everyone" , but not "WISM for everyone". How should I put it...? This time, I wanted to cover all the "WISM" customers.
Kuboshita:I don't know what you're talking about for a minute (laughs).
Tanaka:Don't you get it? (Laughs)

Hori family:For our part, we wanted to develop "everyone's TANAKA" in the "wism" section. We wanted everyone to know more about "TANAKA," which the staff loves so much, and I think this feeling was also included in the "Friendly.
Tanaka:For example, when selecting fabrics, TANAKA usually chooses shiny, vintage-derived fabrics, but Mr. Horie said he wanted a more casual fabric. I could sense Mr. Horie's desire for everyone to wear TANAKA pants.
Hori family:As you said, we wanted to make it accessible to everyone. . If you want something shiny, that's fine, because it's inline. However, we didn't want to do inline products in different colors, materials, or sizes.
What do you mean?
Hori family:. They are standard items that you can always find in stores in an orderly and logical manner. I was very interested in what would happen if "TANAKA" were to design something in the middle of such "wism," or rather, something uniform. This time, I asked TANAKA to give shape to that idea.
. It's not a one-time effort that will last a season, is it?
Tanaka:I was grateful for that.
Kuboshita:It's a story that doesn't come along very often. So I got really into it, and even made a silhouette map.
Hori family:Yes, that's right. Tanaka and Kuboshita suddenly started saying, "Let's make a silhouette map. That made me realize that I should do the same thing (laughs). Usually, when I work with "Doublet" or "Komori," things tend to roll by by feel, so I had never really thought about it that way.
Tanaka:If we were to do it alone, it would be enough for me and Mr. Kuboshita to create what we think is ideal, but when it comes to creating something like this with the client in mind, it is a habit of mine. However, when it comes to creating with the audience in mind, as in this case, it is my habit to do so, and I need to cover everything that exists on the ground. Based on this, I thought that if "TANAKA" and "Wism" were to work together, it would not be good to just be friendly, but it would be better to have some kind of longing. . There needed to be a meeting where we could all discuss this, that, and the other.
Hori family:When we were making the map, Tanaka and I were pasting photos on it, and Kuboshita was cutting out the corners of the photos all the time (laughs).
Tanaka:I put up a lot of pictures. . and Mr. Kuboshita cleaned them up so much (laughs). Kuboshita-san would clean them up so much (laughs). (Laughs.) Sometimes that disturbs my senses. But it helps me to organize, and things often go well.
Hori family:Seeing this scene, I thought that the two of them were interesting. When the creator is interesting, the finished product is also interesting. In that sense, I felt a great sense of trust in them.
