Fishing trip to Hokkaido. HOUYHNHNM FISHING CLUB enjoys the lake and the Sea of Okhotsk. Part 2

HOUYHNHNM FISHING CLUB came to Hokkaido in search of fish that can only be caught in that area and in that season. All of them tried trout fishing in Lake Akan and Lake Kussharo, which they visited for the first time, but they caught only ...... trout. In frustration, they decided to make a fresh start by changing the field from the lakes to the sea. HOUYHNHNM FISHING CLUB's first ocean fishing trip in a long time, and their goal was to eat the fish they caught! The Okhotsk version of the fishing challenge is about to begin!

It was a whirlwind of excitement to catch various species of fish.

The HOKKE festival continues even after moving from one point to another. Among them, occasionally something other than hokke would hit. Komatsu's rod caught a rabbit lingcod, called aburako in Hokkaido.

Komatsu:The pull was strong and I enjoyed interacting with the fish. I saw a rabbit lingcod for the first time. I was thrilled to catch more than just hokke!

Ikemoto and Ichikawa caught striped bass.

Ikemoto:I wanted to catch something other than hokke, so I was just playing around on the bottom and caught a fish. The depth at which each species of fish swims is different, so it is interesting to know where they live.

Ishii and Komatsu then caught cod!

Ishii:It is nice to catch something other than hokke. I didn't know we could really catch cod. I am also satisfied with the size.

While hokke were being caught all over the place, Ichikawa and Ishii caught ezomebaru. Ishii is using a jig sabiki, which is a metal jig and sabiki all in one, so he is catching them along with hokke.

Ichikawa:It was worth coming because I was able to catch a variety of fish unique to Hokkaido. Even though I was exhausted after finishing school, I kept catching fish, which gave me adrenaline and kept me going.

As I was being impressed by the variety of fish species, a dolphin passed right in front of me, reminding me once again of the richness of the Sea of Okhotsk. The hands that reel in the reel never stop, and we are now in the realm of fishing. I scream with joy.

We kept catching fish from the start and it was time to go back to port. We were so satisfied with the catch that we did not know how many fish we had caught. We caught so many fish that we could not fill the cooler box we brought with us.

Six species of fish were caught, from right to left: true hokke, striped mullet, Japanese marlin, hare lingcod, ezomebaru, and cod. The catch was satisfactory.

Ishii:Great fishing! We had a lot of fun in the Sea of Okhotsk, and since we wanted to catch about 5 different kinds of fish, we thought it was a great success. It was three days of fishing. I think I gained experience and improved my level. The Hokkaido I visited this time was just a part of Hokkaido, so I would like to taste more various Hokkaido's wilderness. Fishing takes me to so many different places, and this trip made me realize the appeal of fishing once again.

Ichikawa:Very satisfied with the jigging catch. The beauty of the field was the most impressive thing about this Hokkaido fishing trip. I was healed by such scenery, the food was delicious, and I felt full. I would like to go back to places I have never been to because of the fishing.

Ikemoto:I guess you could say we fished the Sea of Okhotsk all the way. I enjoyed fishing in Hokkaido and have good memories of playing in a faraway land with everyone. I would like to try different kinds of fishing because the fish you can catch differ depending on the season and location.

Komatsu:I was so excited to catch all these fish for the first time. And I didn't expect to catch so many fish. I can still play in Hokkaido. Fishing, scenery, sightseeing, and food were all great. I will definitely come back again.

We shipped the fish we caught back to Tokyo and prepared to go home. I feel sentimental, probably because I had so much fun. We had some time before our flight, so we went sightseeing at Abashiri Prison and ate soup curry. I was able to enjoy Hokkaido to the last detail!
