Learn from Rikiya Amberuoka, the art of store design. What makes Woolrich's new store so appealing?

There is a saying, "God is in the details. It means that by paying thorough attention to detail, a work of art will be refined and will remain in the hearts of many people. The same can be said for fashion and store design. WOOLRICH OUTDOOR LABEL DAIKANYAMA, which opened this past December in Daikanyama, Tokyo, is the work of Rikiya Toshioka of Mowbray Works, who specializes in woodwork. We asked Mr. Torioka himself to show us around the store, which uses an abundance of wood and pays close attention to even the parts that are not visible.

Furniture by Mowbray Works placed in the store.

One of the highlights of Mowbray Works is the furniture that Mr. Yellowtailoka creates. Of course, the furniture at this store also makes the space even more appealing.

Wooden furniture placed in a space with pleasant sunlight. Placed in front of the fitting rooms, visitors can relax, enjoy communication with the staff, and examine the clothes.

The lampshade is made by a French company called Lafabrite. I use them in my home, and I love them. I like its unique blend of Japanese and Western moods.

The chairs were based on a three-seater bench I saw in a garden somewhere in England. I had that in my mind for a long time. I remembered the design and adapted it for one-seaters. I also chose fabric for the cushions from an English manufacturer.

The ottoman in the fitting room was also made by Mr. Yellowtailoka. The buffalo check fabric was miraculously left over from the days when the Woolrich factory was in the U.S., and was used.

By the way, the carpet in the fitting room is made by Yamagata Dantsu, which is said to be the most luxurious carpet manufacturer in Japan. As you can see when you enter the room, you can enjoy the softest feeling in Japan (laughs). (Laughs) Famous architects often use these carpets.

This lighting was also created by Mr. T鰤oka. I didn't have much time, so I was going to outsource the order, but the brand said, 'We want you to make it,' so I did it myself (laughs). The moldings give this piece a simple, yet strong presence.

Desk chair set at the back of the second floor. This set is also made with particular attention to design, materials, and manufacturing methods.

Fumihiko Okabe-san, who used to work as a stylist in Tokyo, now runs a wood shop in Iwate. This desk is made of chestnut and elm wood that I got from Okabe-san. I went all the way to Iwate to select the wood with Okabe-san.

The legs are carved out of a large piece of wood. Normally, we would put the parts together, but this way you can visually feel the heavy weight.

This chair was also made from scratch, and is a perfect homage to a chair made by a French designer. The original was painted, but this one is unpainted. The original chair was painted, but this one was left unpainted. If someone who knows the original would see it, they would be surprised. They will be surprised.
