Where there are taguchi speakers that sound and look great.

Located one street back from Aoyama Killer Street in Jingumae, Tokyo, TWIGGY. is a hair salon owned by beautician Miho Matsuura, a long-established salon that started in 1990 in an apartment building and will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2020.

Celebrities, models, artists, and musicians frequent this place, which has such a reputation for quality and service that it was named one of the top salons in the world by the American edition of Harpers Bazaar in 2014.

Currently, it operates in a single building, with two private rooms equipped with "taguchi" speakers. When we asked colorist Yusuke Oshima to tell us why he introduced the system, he said it was through an introduction from an artist. It was a well-known client, a leading Japanese singer, who said, "Wouldn't it be great if you could hear the sound from above while having a nice head massage? If it is recommended by someone who is constantly confronted with sound, then it must be right, and now two types of four "taguchi" speakers have been installed so that the sound can be heard from the ceiling. The previous private rooms had one floor-mounted speaker per room, but I guess the professionals would feel uncomfortable with that. Still, the supreme hospitality of replacing the speakers as part of the service...it's not half bad.

After having the acoustics looked at, "Twiggy" also changes the model and music in different rooms, such as putting "LITTLE BEL" in the head spa and "LIGHT" in the private room next door.

The reason for this is that the environment of a beauty salon inevitably contains noise. There are some environmental noises that cannot be prevented, such as vacuum cleaners, hair dryers, and conversations with customers. These speakers are designed to make such an environment as pleasant as possible.

For example, the head spa space is designed to be relaxing with dimmed lighting, but the sound of air purifiers and other mechanical noise inevitably enters the space. In order to make the noise less bothersome, "Little BEL" to play soft floating sounds such as relaxation.

On the other hand, "LIGHT" is installed in the private room next door, and music with a moderate rhythm, such as pops and jazz, is chosen. These cubic speakers are designed to create a sound with a prominent mid to high frequency range, so that the sound range is covered by the human voice, so that there is no discomfort during the head spa and the content of the conversation does not leak outside.

The job of a hair stylist is to meet each customer individually and propose hairstyles that suit that person. The most amazing thing about "Twiggy" may be its hospitality and its willingness to think about and be close to its customers, even when technique is a given. The single act of changing the speakers to make the customer feel more comfortable shows how much the beauty salon cares about its customers.
