What you can experience in and around SANU 2nd Home in Yatsugatake.

SANU 2nd Home," a program that allows people to rent a vacation home in a natural setting in various parts of Japan for 55,000 yen per month, has been in operation for about three years since its launch in 2021. The number of locations and registered residents continues to increase, and the popularity of the program shows no sign of waning, with updates such as the installation of charging stations exclusively for Lexus EV cars from 2023. What is it that attracts people so much? To find out, we took a Lexus to SANU 2nd Home in Yatsugatake.

A base in nature, easily accessible to all.

Living in two locations, one in the city and the other in nature, is something that many people aspire to. However, there are many hurdles when it comes to owning a vacation home. In addition to the financial part, the house will be damaged if it is not lived in, and a house requires more maintenance.

SANU 2nd Home" is a service that solves such problems and allows people to have another home in nature.

For a monthly fee of 55,000 yen, guests can stay up to 7 nights per month (maximum 4 nights per stay), choosing from accommodation buildings located in 15 locations nationwide. The number of locations is still growing, and is scheduled to expand to 30 locations with 200 rooms by 2025. Locations are mainly in the Kanto area, but Niseko in Hokkaido, Amami in Kagoshima, and Awaji Island in Hyogo are also scheduled to open.

Cabins have high ceilings and large windows from which one can observe the surrounding nature all day long. The wood-based interior is truly relaxing, surrounded by the scent of wood. It is not a place where you go for extraordinary experiences and services such as hotels and inns, but a place where you can "stay as if you were living".

Another feature of SANU 2nd Home is that the architecture of SANU CABIN BEE (where I stayed this time) has been built in many locations, so the layout of beds, kitchens, and rooms is almost the same wherever you go. So whether you go to Yatsugatake, Karuizawa, or Nasu, the usability remains the same, even if the location is different. Wherever we go, we have a second home that we are familiar with. But it will be a fresh experience to see the view through the window of mountains, lakes, and oceans, and how they look different depending on the four seasons.

In addition, from 2023, we will start collaboration with Lexus, and all of our locations will be equipped with charging stations exclusively for Lexus EV vehicles. This will allow travelers to travel without worrying about recharging their vehicles, even when they are far from the city.

So, what is the right way to actually spend time at SANU 2nd Home and its surroundings? Here is a case study of the Yatsugatake base.
