THE NORTH FACE "RE-Activ Collection".

Atmos's Hirofumi Kojima unravels the power of The North Face's new sandals.

After-activity sandals made of EVA material are becoming a staple in the fashion scene as well as before and after sports and outdoor activities. To coincide with the release of three new items from THE NORTH FACE's RE-Activ collection, a pop-up will be held at the atmos Shinjuku store from June 8 (Sat) to 16 (Sun), 2024. How does "atmos," a leader in the sneaker scene, view these sandals? What is the appeal of after-activity sandals from the sneaker store's perspective? We interviewed Hirofumi Kojima Kojima, creative director of ATMOS. We also introduce style samples of two men and a woman wearing these sandals.

Why Atmos is featuring "Sandals".

PROFILE

Hirofumi Kojima

Born in 1981, he joined Text Trading (now Foot Locker ATMOS Japan) in 2000. Currently, he is the creative director and senior men's director of ATMOS, overseeing operations and buying for the store.

- The North Face" will hold a pop-up at "ATMOS SHINJUKU" store. This combination seems a bit unexpected.

Kojima: Is that so? We have been carrying The North Face at ATMOS for a long time. We have been in business with The North Face for more than 20 years. However, this is the first time we are holding a pop-up in this way.

- I heard that this pop-up will feature the new sandals from "The North Face". Why sandals?

Kojima: Atmos" may have a strong image of sneakers. Of course we carry sneakers year-round, but we also focus on boots in winter and sandals in summer. This trend has become more and more pronounced over the past few years.

- In recent years, after-activity sandals made of EVA, or so-called recovery sandals, have become increasingly popular on the fashion scene. What was the reaction at Atmos?

Kojima: Compared to the past, there are more fashionable sandals that can be worn on the street. Like shoes, the functionality and comfort of sandals has evolved over the years, and there is a high demand for them among customers. The reason why we are holding this pop-up featuring The North Face's new sandals is because of these changes in the environment surrounding sandals.
