A new balance of dressing found in over-the-knee shorts.
PROFILE
Born in Kanagawa Prefecture in 1994. After working for an apparel company, he started a vintage clothing store with his partner Eiji Urata in 2020, changed the name to "AUSGANG" in 2022, and opened an actual store in front of Gakugei Daigaku Station last September.

What kind of items do you select at "AUSGANG"?
Makiyama:We mainly sell soccer uniforms and other soccer goods such as track jackets and scarves. We also have some vintage denim and sneakers to match.
I think it is rare to find a vintage clothing store that focuses mainly on soccer wear.
Makiyama:Originally, I was just a regular vintage clothing store, buying soccer uniforms as if they were funny T-shirts. Now I go to Madrid, Spain four or five times a year to buy uniforms.
Soccer uniforms are becoming more popular every year, aren't they?
Makiyama:Personally, I have the impression that the style of incorporating uniforms into street clothes became popular two years ago. During that period, there was an increase in the number of young kids wearing them in overseas snapshots and K-POP idols incorporating them into their outfits, so I think this may have had some influence on the style. Also, the World Cup was held in 2022, so I think that was a big factor.
Recently, many customers have been coming to our store because they are interested in uniforms as a fashion item, even if they are not very familiar with soccer.
What do you think is the appeal of soccer uniforms?
Makiyama:First of all, there are designs and colors that can only be found in uniforms. Also, of course, it is sportswear, so it is cool, easy to dry, and so comfortable that it could not be better for summer wear.
I like uniforms from the 90s to the early 00s, and many of them have watermarked designs from that era. I think that old uniforms have elaborate designs that are not found in current uniforms, and there is an old-world charm to enjoying the differences in details from one era to another.
Today, I asked you to style me in a soccer uniform and Grip Swanee shorts.
Makiyama:I usually choose shorts that are below the knee, so to be honest, I had never worn shorts as short as these. At first I was nervous because I am not used to wearing shorts this short, but once I tried them on, I realized that this length was fresh and new for me.
Today, I tried a smaller size uniform with a shorter length hem. I like the balance of tight items together.

The newest addition to the Grip Swanee shorts lineup this season. The material used is supplex nylon. In addition to the above-the-knee length silhouette that does not interfere with leg movement, they are lightweight like a swimsuit and can be used in a wide range of situations, from the street to the water.
What do you think about the comfort?
Makiyama:It's just so lightweight! They are very easy to wear and I think they are a great item for this time of year. I also like that it has many pockets.
The material used is Supplex nylon, which dries quickly and is useful for festivals and camping.
Makiyama:I would have wanted to take it with me on the buying trip. Buying in Spain involves walking around for about 12 hours a day for two weeks. I get tired and sweaty. These shorts will make me feel comfortable. I also appreciate that I don't have to worry about wrinkles because of the material.
