-Do you travel often?

Ikeya: My wife loves to travel, so we always take a family trip at least once a year. Last year , we went to Australia as a family. . For weekend surfing, we often go to Shizuoka these days.

-What kind of trip did you have in mind when you packed this time?

Ikeya: I imagined "my first trip to San Francisco for 2 nights and 3 days surfing . A good friend of mine who is an older surfer runs a brand called " San Francisco Connect. I was told by him and other surfing friends that San Francisco was a great place to go. I heard from him and other surfing friends that San Francisco is a great place to surf. I thought, "If I want to travel alone, this is the only place I can go.

-Is it easy to ride the waves in San Francisco?

Ikeya: . Actually, San Francisco is not really a surf town. . It's really a city where art and culture are thriving. . I think that's why my friends like it so much. I don't go there just to enjoy surfing, but also to spend time in the city, going to museums and cafes.

-Please let me know what kind of luggage you are taking with you.

Ikeya: Let's start with surfing equipment. The biggest one is a wetsuit. San Francisco is an area with low water temperatures . . So we chose thicker ones. A heat-retaining head cap is also important. If you wear it, your body heat will not be drained from your head. . I also bring a waterproof wet bag that can hold wet items as they are. The bath towels I use in the ocean are from a surf store in San Francisco called "Molask Surf.

-What is in these packing cubes?

Ikeya: . includes surf wax, fins, leash, duct tape in case the board breaks, and a rope to carry the board in the car. In another pouch, sunglasses, glasses, and water proof sunscreen. I always bring about two pairs of glasses, one with clear frames and one with black rims.

-Do you take a surfboard?

Ikeya: There are three main types of boards: short boards, mid-length boards, and long boards, and I ride all of them, but I will be bringing two of them with me this time: a short board and a mid-length board. Mid-length is about 2 to 3 meters in length . That's all I have to pack for surfing. If you have at least this, you can surf. . I am not particularly conscious of trying to reduce my luggage.

-Well, can you show us the other side?

Ikeya: In the mesh pocket I put my computer and a surfing DVD; the DVDs range from films of the surf scene in the 60's to films featuring people I know. I plan to bring them with me to watch on the plane, in the evening at the hotel when I have free time, and to motivate myself.

-It's lovely. Do you bring a lot of clothes?

Ikeya: I bring a lot of clothes with me so that I can wear them in various situations. What I want to wear changes depending on my mood, and it is better to have many choices when traveling.

-Please give me the details of the clothing.

Ikeya: Two pairs of pants, two T-shirts, and two long T-shirts, including T-shirts from my senior's brand "San Francisco Connect" and from a fellow surfer, artist Yohei Ogawa.

Ikeya: Also, a vintage San Francisco sweatshirt! I like San Francisco motifs and have several of them, but I thought I'd take advantage of the opportunity this time (laughs). I heard that it rains a lot in San Francisco and that the mornings and nights are cold, so I thought I would bring a GORE-TEX mountain parka.

-Are there 4 caps in total? That's more than the number of nights (laughs).

Ikeya: . I love them. . This time, I just went with my gut and quickly chose something that looked easy to use. Ah, here's another one in San Francisco .

-And then there are shoes and a handkerchief.

Ikeya: In the sea I will wear beesan , in the city I will wear sneakers. For the flight, I will wear Birkenstocks. I will also bring a lot of handkerchiefs. I also included a charger system and speakers.

-By the way, are you usually good at packing?

Ikeya: I am usually a city surfer, so I do this preparation every time I go surfing. . So I guess I am used to packing. Also, I am the type of person who folds clothes neatly, so I am good at putting them in tightly. . When packing this time, I was conscious of making sure that my surfing gear and other items, such as clothes, would fit in half on each side.

-Thank you very much . Have you ever used a Tumi suitcase or bag before?

Ikeya: I've been curious about it , but haven't had a chance to try it until now. This is my first time using it , and it looks great!

-How was it packing this time? What are your favorite parts?

Ikeya: First of all , it has a cool design. . because I want something with a cool design, both in appearance when it is placed and when it is used. . The matte gray color of the body is nice. . I usually wear a lot of colored clothes, so a simple suitcase is probably a good balance for me.

Ikeya: . The ability to engrave a name on the leather part is also a special touch.

-What in particular do you think makes this a great place for a surf trip?

Ikeya: As a surfer, I am glad to see that it has anti-bacterial features both on the outside and inside! On surf trips, I enjoy surfing until the very last minute before leaving, and most of the time I leave my wetsuit in it while it is still wet. . Rather, I never dry it properly before returning home (laughs). . Then I worry about the smell and the mildew.... I really like the fact that it prevents both.

-What are some of your other favorite points?

Ikeya: The sturdiness is apparent even at a quick glance! The key also looks sturdy and secure. The fact that it is a numbered type and all you have to do is set the number you want seems to make it easy to use. Also, since it is a frame type, I thought that water would not get in through the cracks even on rainy days.

Ikeya: It is nice to have a small side pocket inside. It has a hidden feeling, so it will come in handy for keys, passports, and other valuables.

-How was the lightness and drivability?

Ikeya: It is lightweight , and just runs smoothly. . San Francisco has a lot of hills. It felt good, like skateboarding. Personally, I am concerned about the noise it makes. When I ride it on asphalt or on bad terrain, if it is too loud, I worry about people's eyes. So I thought it would be nice to have a quiet place.

-I've used many of Tumi's packing cubes this time, and I was wondering if you had a favorite among them?

Extra Large Packing Cube 22,000 yen
Accessory Pouch Large ¥23,100

Ikeya: I have a wetsuit in it , a big one I guess. I usually put it straight into my carry-on case, but it is thick and quite bulky, so this fits nicely. This size is also the best. Especially when traveling with my family, I don't like to mix up our luggage. I want to keep it all together with just my stuff, so I want it very much! Also, I like this accessory pouch. It has a hard part, and at first I thought, "Is this a camera case? . but it feels so well protected. I think the packing cube makes the whole thing fit better. Normally, I wouldn't be able to fit it all in.

-I heard that you like to travel with your family, what is the next occasion you would like to use this suitcase?

Ikeya: I'm going to Niseko in Hokkaido , Japan next time I'm there. . and also when I go back to my wife's parents' house. Since we are going to Shizuoka, we will be driving home, and I thought this suitcase would be cool to carry our luggage in and out of the house! . I can even hang my luggage on top of it to carry it around. We are talking about going to Thailand again with my family around the beginning of the new year, so I would definitely like to use it then.
