The shoes feature a thick-soled design with a forefoot sole of 21 mm, completely different from the thin soles that have been the norm for racing shoes in the past.
The new midsole is remarkably lighter and softer than the foam used in previous soles while maintaining resilience.
The all-new sole system, consisting of a full-length carbon fiber plate that supports forward motion, has a unique "spoon-like" shape, which is reflected in the striking color scheme of the midsole.
In addition to transmitting forward movement, the carbon fiber plate increases the resistance to bending, making each step more efficient and converting the athlete's energy into propulsion without wasting it.
The heel, shaped for ultimate aerodynamic performance, is also impressive. The Flyknit upper that wraps around the foot has been fine-tuned to fit the athlete's foot.

The NIKE ZOOM VAPORFLY ELITE will be available at select mass retailers and can also be purchased by winning the NIKE ZOOM VAPORFLY ELITE CHALLENGE, a time trial to be held on Saturday, February 3 on the track at the Yumenoshima Track and Field Stadium.
The day will be organized into running groups by shoe size, starting at a 5:00/km pace on the 400m track , with the pace increasing with each lap. The competition will continue until the last person in the group.
Each group will be awarded the right to purchase as many feet (the number of feet will vary for each size), starting with the person who runs the most laps. More details about the event and how to participate will be announced in the coming weeks via social media and other means.
