All of Image Club Limited, curated by American hardcore heavyweight Keith Morris.

Keith Morris (L), Douglas Williams (R)

Keith Morris has been a part of the punk culture from the mid 70's to the present and has made a name for himself with legendary bands such as BLACK FLAG and CIRCLE JERKS. OFF! in 2009, and is still an important figure in the hardcore world.

In 2007, Keith Morris launched the T-shirt brand "IMAGE CLUB LTD. The brand's T-shirts are printed with street and live photos of Keith's hometown, Los Angeles, taken from the archives of Edward Colver and Gary Leonard, two of his close friends.

Keith and founder Douglas Williams visited Japan for the pop-up event held at Journal Standard Omotesando. We asked them about their careers to date and the full scope of "Image Club Limited.

How did you start Image Club Limited?

Keith: My friend and photographer Edward Colver was shooting live photos and album covers for CIRCLE JERKS, which I was a member of. I wanted more people to know about those photos, so I talked to Douglas, who knows the fashion industry, and we started Image Club Limited. Douglas was also the director of Fleabass, a bass brand run by RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS bassist Flea, so he was the right person for the job.

Douglas:Yes, two years ago, Keith approached me with the idea of putting some of the photos he and his friends had taken on T-shirts. That was the beginning of Image Club Limited.

Keith: In addition to Edward Colver, Image Club Limited also features a guy named Gary Leonard. Gary Leonard is a guy who specializes in capturing interesting things on the street, rather than live bands. For example, a parked Alfa Romeo on fire. You don't see many people taking pictures like that (laughs).

Douglas: It's no exaggeration to say that we mainly feature everything related to music, sports and entertainment in Los Angeles.

Is Los Angeles a special place for the two of you?

Keith: Yes, that's right. I've been based here all my life, and I've seen a lot of things in Los Angeles. I don't see any reason to keep it that way.

What is the age range of most of the photographs in "Image Club Limited"?

Douglas: The photos on display and for sale at this event are mainly from the early 80s, but they cover a wide range of ages.

Keith: Of course, there are other things from the 70's besides that decade, and I would also like to hook up with younger photographers in the future. I'd like to print the work of an assistant photographer for "Playboy" on T-shirts, for example.

Douglas: It's just enough to change the era and theme each season and do it at our own pace.

Are there any artists you are interested in at the moment?

Douglas: RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS.

Keith: We have known each other for a long time, and I feel I can bring out the best in them. That said, I would like to highlight the iconic California culture of skateboarding and surfing.

What prompted you to team up with "Journal Standard" for this event?

Douglas: Originally, Keith and I were planning to do some interesting events. We got together with "Journal Standard" to create a punk capsule collection featuring Raymond Pettibon and Sean Kelly, who did the artwork for BLACK FLAG and CIRCLE JERKS, which he was a member of in the 1970s. From there, we began to discuss our ideas for the items we wanted to make and the photos we wanted to use.

Finally, what is your outlook for the future?

Douglas: I've been in the fashion industry for about 30 years, so I know that if you make something good, it will sell. And we have a lot of ideas and a lot of connections to make use of them. So there is no limit to what we can do.

Keith: At the core of Image Club Limited, we want to make T-shirts our key item. I believe that from there it will expand to many other things.

Lastly, we bring you a report from the opening party held on the first day of the pop-up event. Please take a look at the photos below, along with snaps of the people who came to the event!

The T-shirts and goods that were available at the pop-up are now on sale in stores to rave reviews, so check them out!
