Fashion trends change with the times. While there are various trends, large and small, there are certain basic elements in men's fashion that will never go away. No one would disagree that one of them is the American traditional style embodied by the Brooks Brothers brand.

It's not the same style as when Thom Browne first appeared on the scene a little over 10 years ago, but it's interesting to spice up the traditional look by going a bit oversized or using traditional as an accent. It is interesting to incorporate traditional clothes with a little spice. I guess you could call it a fresh revival.

Mr. Naoki Ikeda, a popular stylist active in a wide range of fields centering on fashion magazines, described the current situation surrounding American style in this way. Ikeda has a reputation as a stylist with a broad range of skills, from suit styling to casual wear, and his styling skills, which are common to all styles, are clean yet have a certain quirk to them, and this was clearly evident in the coordination of the day.

I feel that Brooks Brothers is taking a stance of preserving what is important while accepting what is new, not tradition and innovation. I don't mean to imply that I am conscious of this, but for today's coordination, I paired an American-made Southwick suit with a button-down shirt that is a size larger than usual. For everyday casual wear, I think a loose-fitting shirt is just right for today.

The fascination created by reinterpreting an object from different perspectives and interpretations is what makes Ikeda's styling so appealing. This may be due in large part to Ikeda's hobby of appreciating architecture.

I originally liked vessels, and when I started to find out what I thought was an appropriate situation for a vessel to be placed in, it simply turned out to be architecture. I started to look at modernism overseas whenever I went on business trips or on vacation. Then I began to realize that there are many good things in Tokyo, and that classical Japanese architecture itself had an influence on modernism. Even a single Japanese garden is different from how I saw it 20 years ago and how I see it now. It becomes totally new from a different perspective, and I make discoveries through study. How you look at the era and what you put next to it is the same in styling, and I think that is the interesting part of how you look at Brooks Brothers, which is truly American traditional.
