Shutter is by the vibration of a drum. Photographer Yusuke Yamatani's new works are now available at flotsam books.

Although it is not quite business as usual, the self-restraint is gradually easing. People are beginning to return to movie theaters and museums, and events at stores are increasing. Anyway, we just hope that there will not be a second wave.

And now, I would like to introduce an event at flotsam books, a bookstore in Daitabashi, Tokyo, which also writes the Huinamu blog.

This pop-up is being held in conjunction with the release of a photo book by Yusuke Yamatani, a photographer who is a friend of "flotsam books.

. First, several cameras are set up around the drum set on which Mr. Yamatani plays the drums. When a sensor detects the vibration caused by the drumming, an intense strobe light is triggered to capture the image of Mr. Yamatani himself. The photos taken are constantly printed out from multiple printers via a PC. You can see how it works in the video below.

This performance has been done since 2018 and will be followed in 2019 by a month-long tour through 6 European countries. In total, 3,563 shots were taken during the 8 performances . In addition to the photos taken at the performances, this photo book contains snapshots taken on the road from city to city, landscapes, meals, hotels, and people he met, arranged in an unobtrusive manner. An interview with Ms. Yamatani is also included in the book, and it is just a lot of stuff.

Initially, this photo book was distributed to supporters of the crowdfunding campaign to raise funds for the European tour, but due to the division of the world by Corona, we decided to release it to the general public.
