The legendary cartoonist continued to draw with a captivating eye. An exhibition of Kazuo Uemura's works will be held to commemorate the 80th anniversary of his birth.

Legendary manga artist Kazuo Uemura is known as the "Painter of the Showa Era. He is known for works such as "Dosei Jidai" and "Shinanogawa," and since his death, translated editions of his works have been published not only in Japan but also in Europe, and numerous exhibitions of his original drawings have been held.

It is well known that Quentin Tarantino, impressed by the film version of the manga "Shura Yukihime" (original story by Kazuo Koike), which he drew, created a homage cut in his masterpiece "Kill Bill".

This year marks the 80th anniversary of Uemura's birth. To celebrate this memorable milestone, "manazashi," an exhibition of his paintings selected from an artistic perspective, will be held at the Daikanyama Tsutaya bookstore.

On display will be original paintings, book, magazine, and record jackets for which he worked on the covers, as well as his favorite items, many of which are now rare and precious.

Of particular note are the images of women depicted with a distinctive dramatic touch. As the title of the exhibition suggests, the focus is on the "gaze" of these women, which is strong and dignified, but at the same time somewhat melancholy.
