This Japanese-made brand has created an unprecedented denim for the fall/winter 2020 season. It is an ethical new denim made from banana tree stem fibers.
It is said that once a banana tree has been harvested, it never grows bananas again. This project started when Mr. Kishimoto, the director of "Japan Blue Jeans," a Thailand lover, learned this truth, believing that bananas could be harvested many times.
The denim items, created in light of the current situation in Thailand, where air pollution has become an issue, are finished in an ethical manner. Banana stems, which would otherwise be discarded, are reused for the fabric, reducing the amount of water used. Patches are also made of recycled denim and organic cotton.
However, production required trial and error. Banana fiber, which is lighter than cotton and excels in water absorption and permeability, does not have elasticity and is not comfortable to wear. To solve this problem, we blended banana fiber with Ivory Coast cotton and improved the feel of the fabric by washing it repeatedly to create thicker yarns for denim and thinner yarns for shirts.
