After drums, cars. Yusuke Yamatani's solo exhibition will start with his new attempts.

Mr. Yamatani's solo exhibition will start on October 17 (Sat.) at "flotsam books," which was the setting for the interview article. The title is "TOKYO BY CAR.

Ms. Yamatani is well known for her avant-garde technique of taking self-portraits by beating a drum and using the vibrations to take pictures. In this exhibition, however, he set up a camera and strobe in the back seat of his car and used a release (a camera accessory that allows the shutter to be released from a distance) to take pictures while driving.

Mr. Yamatani is driving, and the trigger for pressing the shutter is the view in front of him as he looks out. However, what is projected on the screen is the view from the rear window. The works are conscious and unconscious, inevitable and accidental. Regardless of the subject matter, Yamatani's photographs have a strangely raw and thick atmosphere.
