Summary of HOUYHNHNM's. 2020 Popular Articles.

The year 2020 is almost over. Thank you for reading HOUYHNHNM for another year.

Before we wrap up the year, what articles were popular this year? We will therefore review the articles that received the most favorable responses, along with comments from the editorial staff.

MUJI's lightweight down and knitwear snuggle up together, a lifestyle for four people.

Everyone has owned a MUJI item at least once. We looked at the appeal of down and sweaters, winter essentials, in the lives of four people with different lifestyles.

Editorial comment

Actually, I had envisioned a shorter article, but the stories of everyone who performed were so interesting and the photos were all so good that the article ended up being very long. We didn't have time to eat lunch, and the shooting ended around 19:00. Afterwards, the staff and I ate at "Bikkuri Donkey" for the first time in 15 years, and the food was delicious. Sneaker Freak's Realistic Shoe Selection.
Vol.5 Katsutoshi Nishimoto

The Sneakers Series, which was launched by POGGY in July this year, has been well received each time, including the excitement of having the next person nominated in a relay format. Among the most popular was Katsutoshi Nishimoto's installment, who appeared as the fifth person in the latest article.

Editorial comment

In this Series, we introduce the favorites of sneaker freaks, and in Vol. 5, Nishimoto-san impressed us with his high-impact appearance and honest attitude toward sneakers. The piled-up shoe boxes in the latter half of the article should convey his extraordinary passion for sneakers. Incidentally, the next issue will feature Ken Kagami, a well-known contemporary artist in HOUYHNHNM's. Please look forward to it! (See below.)Yamamoto.)

A professional gamer who strikes back.
Daigo Umehara, professional gamer

This is an interview with Daigo Umehara, a leading figure in eSports, which has been attracting a lot of attention over the past few years, about how he has opened up his life, and I was moved by his final words about how he changed his outlook on life. I was moved by his words at the end of the interview about how he changed his outlook on life.

Editorial comment

It's a rare thing in this world that I was able to interview professional gamer Umehara for an article on backpacks. It is a very interesting interview even now, thanks to the open-minded brand (laughs). The writer did a good job of summarizing, but it is because Mr. Umehara has been dealing with himself for so long that he is able to talk about his life philosophy in such an orderly manner. Is Tamio Okuda the boy who wants to be Yuzo Kayama?

The interview article with Tamio Okuda, who says that the editor and writer were his admirers, is full of love, right from the title. The relaxed atmosphere throughout the article was pleasant, and the response from Tamio's fans was great.

Editorial comment

This project was undertaken by me, the editor in charge of the project, who was "the boy who wants to be Tamio Okuda," and a writer. We were a little nervous and had a strong desire to interview him, but we were completely caught up in Tamio's mild-mannered atmosphere, just as we had seen him on TV and at his live performances. We spent about an hour "chatting" in a very comfortable, lukewarm atmosphere, without any sense of "interviewing. Looking back on it now, it was a happy time. I hope you can feel the deep affection that the writer and I had for Mr. Tamio and the friendly atmosphere on the day of the interview from every part of the article!

Yes, between you and me, I was impressed and grinned every time Tamio-san's peculiar phrases, such as "-na desu desu", "-tan desu", "xxx"-style", and "-like", were uttered. (¡stone)

CAMP 2020 vol.1 60 camping gears to buy now

Each month we will focus on one thing or another in our special feature "MONTHLY JOURNALThis year, we have started the "Camping" series. The first issue features camping, which has been growing in popularity in recent years.

Editorial comment

The flow of the shooting was unpacking, assembling the gear, photographing, disassembling, and packing again. That's 50 pieces. In addition, a typhoon was passing by the shooting location on the day of the shoot, so it rained on and off, and we had to put things away and take them out each time.... It was a lot of work. Thank you very much to all the staff. But every time I do this shoot, I get deeper and deeper into the swamp of gear. (I'll get back to you soon.) (*)woody plantation)

Redear's new feeling of casual.

A fashion shoot wearing "Red Ear," a small collection by [PS Paul Smith]. I go camping and interview all kinds of people, and yes, HOUYHNHNM's is a fashion-related web magazine.

Editorial comment

Every year, there are certain projects that are unforgettable as we create dozens of articles. One of the best examples is the fashion shoot. The amount of time and effort that goes into this project is worth the sense of accomplishment when the desired visual is achieved. One of my personal highlights this year was this feature. One of my personal highlights this year was working with photographer Haruko Tomioka.

Mr. Tomioka lives in London, so it is usually difficult to ask him for help, but he was just returning to Japan at the time. Looking back on it now, it was miraculous timing before the Corona disaster. I am very happy that the article was included in the popular articles. It was a great honor to be included in such a popular article, and I am very happy to be an editor. (See the article below.)Muromatsu (era 1333-1573, or 1333-1573, or 1336-1573))

My true self and myself as an actor.
Many switches in Yuya Yagira.

JINS Switch" is a 2-way eyewear that can be worn as glasses or sunglasses, or both, depending on the mood or occasion. We asked Mr. Yuya Yagira about his "switch" between his "on" acting face and his "off" face in his daily life. By the way, Mr. Yagira is so cool.

Editorial comment

Since we were shooting sunglasses, a "sunny day" was a prerequisite. However, rain was forecasted all the way up to the day of the shoot. I remember staring at the weather forecast and wondering if the shoot was going to be a disaster until the very last minute. It was worth hanging a teru teru bozu (!?) on the day of the shoot! On the day of the event, the weather was perfectly fine! When photographer Mr. Otsuji took the first shot of the indoor scene, there was just the right amount of natural light, and at that moment I was convinced, "This shoot is going to be good! I was convinced. And I was relieved. It was a hectic scene with both stills and movies, but the entire staff played baseball to get through it.

As a side note, Yuya Yagira is one of my favorite actors. I like "Distraction Babies" for movies and "Aoi Honoo" for TV dramas. I am looking forward to seeing him in several movies in 2021. (see also...)stone)

GU and SOPH. collaborated to create 1MW by SOPH.
The endless one-mile that the three parties lead.

To commemorate the launch of "1MW by SOPH.", a collaboration wear between "GU" and "SOPH.", designer Seinaga, graphic designer YOSHIROTTEN, and musician Ryohu have a trilogy talk. We are familiar with the one-mile contents, such as the disappearance of "Three F" in the neighborhood.

Editorial comment

One-mile wear" became popular this year. This project started less than a year before the term became a household word, with the idea of "loungewear that can be worn within a 500 meter radius and can be taken to a convenience store. The project started with the idea of "loungewear that can be worn within a radius of 500 meters and that can be taken to a convenience store. This was the moment when I was reminded of Mr. Seinaga's outstanding foresight.

And one more thing. It is really amazing that three people from different professions and different generations can accomplish something toward the same goal. I wonder if Liu Bei, Guan Yu, and Zhang Fei were like this. This is a project like the "Oath in the Peach Garden of 2025. A one-day tour of Tokyo with painter Joji Nakamura.
A good distance from things that I feel in the Twingo.

Joji Nakamura and I went sightseeing in Tokyo for a day in a Renault Twingo! The compact body of the Twingo fits well in Paris as well as in Tokyo. It was a year in which car travel was more popular than public transport, so why not take a look at this article for hints on how to enjoy Tokyo once again?

Editorial comment

I did this interview around mid-January of this year. It was before Corona was still a big hit with the public. We wandered around Ginza first thing in the morning, enjoyed an exhibition at a gallery in Harajuku, got a parka while chatting and laughing at Cup and Cone, and took a leisurely stroll through Asakusa, weaving our way through the crowds. I have been in Tokyo for a long time, but it has been a long time since I have spent such a full day in the city. The Thai yaki next to CUP AND CONE was delicious. Let's go there again next time.

Incidentally, Joji Nakamura, the painter who appears in this article, is the author of the bookArt Movements in the Corona Disaster. The art scene in 2020 from each standpoint.Check out the "The Role of the Soul" section of this site for more information! (Japanese only)stone)

Commemorating the release of "The Spy's Wife the Movie
Film and music to consider with Ryosuke Nagaoka and Keiichi Sogabe.

The Spy's Wife " won the Silver Lion for Best Director at the 77th Venice International Film Festival. We interviewed Mr. Ryosuke Nagaoka of The Petrols, who composed the film's musical accompaniment for the first time, and Mr. Keiichi Sogabe, who has composed numerous film scores, on the theme of the unusual approach to film music. You may discover new charms and ways to enjoy movies.

Editorial comment

Directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa and written by Ryusuke Hamaguchi. When I was making my own films, I looked up to both of them as mentors, and their collaboration on "The Spy's Wife" was an eye-opening experience for me personally.
While it is usual to talk to the director and cast, this time we focus on Ryosuke Nagaoka, who was in charge of the music in the film. With Keiichi Sogabe as our guest, we created an article on the rarely discussed topic of "film music. It is no exaggeration to say that music plays a vital role in the life and death of images. ......The unknown world is still interesting! I feel like my view of movies has changed a bit. (The two guys were so cool!!!!). (By the way, the two uncles were so cool!!!!)Sudo (member of India's worker caste))

Director, stylist and designer.
The appeal of brand-name stones, viewed from three perspectives.

Australian-born shoe brand "Brandstone". We interviewed three people from different professions who make their living in the fashion industry to find out more about the appeal of this brand. The 150th anniversary of the company's founding is amazing.

Editorial comment

Mr. Kurino's social and sustainability talk, Mr. Hyodo's YouTube and how to deal with things, and Mr. Tairiku's movies and vintage clothes. It was fun to hear everyone speak from different angles. I was especially moved by Mr. Hyakko's summary of the destructive power of his words, "If you are a man, please take care of your wife more than you take care of your things! I was impressed by the destructive power of Mr. Hyodo's words and the way he summarized them (laugh). As an article by〈Brand Stone〉,Article about meeting Ryoji HonmaCheck it out as well. This was also a great interview with a scotch. (See alsoside street (e.g. of a building, etc.))

Shopping Addict

This is a popular Series in which editorial staff members with different tastes and interests introduce their favorites each month. This year, due to an increase in the number of editorial staff, we have decided to split the series into two parts, Part I and Part II, in the middle of the year.

Editorial comment

My first job as an editor was this "Shopping Addict," which introduces 40 items at once, so there is a certain amount of work involved in preparation and photography. However, I was very happy to see the articles I was involved in being published. This project taught me the sweet and sour sides of being an editor. (Photo: Mr. Kurokawa)bamboo sword)
This is HOUYHNHNM's signature project that needs no explanation. I've loved this project since I was a reader, and I wonder how I would have reacted if I knew that one day I would be the one to introduce it (laugh). (Laughs) I will continue to introduce you my favorite products in 2021.brushwood mountain)

We look forward to working with "HOUYHNHNM" again next year!
