Film director Jim Jarmusch has affirmed the adolescence of many people. From Hokkaido to Okinawa, 12 of his films will be projected on screens around Japan.

The release of all of Jim Jarmusch's films is probably one of the top two movie topics of the year.

Although past films have been screened along with new works, this is the first time that 12 works from the early to the latest have graced the screen at the same time.

Some screenings have already begun in Tokyo, and the special circumstances surrounding the Corona disaster have also contributed to an unusually high level of excitement. Now that more and more regional screenings have been scheduled, let's take a look back at the films that have been screened.

Permanent Vacation" (80)

Jarmusch's first feature film, shot as his graduation project while a student at New York University. The main character, a boy who does not fit in with society, wanders around New York City aimlessly, meeting and parting with various outsiders, and searching for his own path. The scene in which he dances around in his room will go down in film history.

Stranger than Paradise" (1984)

Willie, his cousin Eva, and his best friend Eddie live free and easy in New York City and spend their days together without a care in the world. The car pictured on the jacket takes the story in all directions. Willie's argyle-patterned knit is striking.

Down by Law" (86)

Jack, a delinquent, Zack, a radio DJ, and Roberto, an Italian, meet in the same cell in a New Orleans prison, and one day the three successfully escape. One day, the three succeed in escaping from prison, and a curious journey unfolds with no destination in sight. The film shows the indescribable friendship between men.

Mystery Train" (89)

This is an omnibus style film in which three stories intersect in the city of Memphis. Each is a one-night movie, in their own place, watching the same night train, listening to Elvis' "Blue Moon," and hearing a single gunshot the next morning. Yutaka Kudo and Masatoshi Nagase give the film a unique air.

Night on the Planet" (1991)

Set in five cities (Los Angeles, New York, Paris, Rome, and Helsinki), the omnibus-style film depicts the encounters between drivers and customers that take place in the cabs. Winona Ryder's incredibly cool driving is irresistible.

The Dead Man" (95)

William Blake, an accountant, goes to the western town of Machine in search of work, but when he is framed for murder in the town, he goes on the run. He is framed for murder in the city and goes on the run, vanquishing one enemy after another and transforming himself into a Western-style outlaw. This film shows a new side of Johnny Depp, who was already very popular.

Ghost Dog" (1999)

Ghost Doc is a lone assassin who is devoted to bushido and loves to read "Hagakure" (the Book of Oblivion), and uses a carrier pigeon as his only means of communication. One day, a misunderstanding leads him into a war with the Italian mafia in town. Jarmusch's respect for Japan is readily apparent, and the novel cross between hip-hop culture and bushido is also enjoyable.

Coffee & Cigarettes" (03)

This is a gem of a short story collection of 11 episodes that unfold over coffee and cigarettes. The stories are told by a variety of actors, musicians, comedians, and unknown newcomers to the Jarmusch canon, each with his or her own unique story to tell. While tracing past works, they also create completely new stories that are sure to be coveted by fans.

Only Lovers Left Alive" (13)

This is a unique love story featuring two vampires named Adam and Eve. They live quietly in a modern city, but their peaceful life comes to an end when Eve's sister, Eva, appears. Tilda Swinton's divinity is intoxicating in this film.

Patterson" (16)

This is a seven-day story about a man named Patterson who lives in the town of Patterson, New Jersey. He writes poetry while driving a bus, and spends his ordinary days with his wife, Laura, and their dog, Marvin. The film depicts Patterson's seemingly ordinary life with his interactions with unique people and unexpected encounters. The film shows the changes in Jarmusch's mindset as he grows older.

Gimme Danger" (16)

The Stooges, the legendary band known as the originators of punk rock, had a tremendous impact on the music scene later on. Iggy Pop, a longtime friend of Jarmusch, personally commissioned the production of this official documentary on the Stooges. Jarmusch's deep love for music permeates the screen.

Dead Don't Die" (19)

Centerville, a rural American town with only three police officers. One day, a mysterious incident occurs in which a waitress is eaten off her internal organs. Before they know it, the town is overrun with zombies, and the three officers must confront them in order to protect the townspeople. A gorgeous offbeat zombie film featuring a large cast of familiar faces. Hats off to Jarmusch's style of pioneering a new genre.
