Since the SDGs were set as goals, we have had more opportunities to review the things around us. A great variety of efforts are being made to recycle things that were previously discarded, or to turn things that were previously unnoticed into resources.
Some people have their eyes on something a little more unexpected. JAPAN BLUE JEANS has been developing a denim collection made from bananas since 2020.
This banana denim also has high water absorbency, moisture absorption, and durability, and by blending it with Ivory Coast cotton, the finished product has a light, hemp-like texture. The development was a success, as the quality of the fabric was higher than imagined.
But why bananas?
This is due to the fact that the director, Mr. Kishimoto, learned that bananas bear fruit only once and that the stalks are discarded after harvest.
Three new items will be added to this collection: "Easy Tailored Jacket," "Easy Slacks," and "Eco Bag.
Easy Tailored Jacket ¥33,000

The jacket has a slim silhouette, but with darts to create curves and a relaxed, not-too-tight look.
Easy Slacks ¥24,200

Conversely, slacks with a relaxed silhouette and excellent comfort are tapered toward the ankle for a clean look.
Eco Bag ¥5,995
The eco bag is cute with yellow piping reminiscent of bananas. The chambray fabric woven with banana fiber is refreshing.
The supply of natural fibers such as cotton and linen is decreasing as the number of producers decreases. Banana denim is second to none in terms of material quality, and is also environmentally friendly and ethical.
It may one day emerge as a third material to replace cotton and linen.
