Have you heard of the Cup of Excellence?
It started in Brazil in 1999, and is a specialty coffee fair program to determine the best coffee beans of the year. Now, it is held in various countries known for their coffee production areas, and all countries are working hard to improve the quality of their coffee.
The beans that arrived at all of the "Sarutahiko Coffee" stores were from Ethiopia, which won the first prize. Sarutahiko Coffee" won the bid for the COE 1st place coffee beans for the second year in a row, as it did last year. Last year, the coffee was released online and received a good response, but this year, it is also available at the bean store and at all of our stores except for the Ikebukuro pop-up.
The beans, produced by Tamil Tadesse Tessema in the Sidama region and processed by anaerobic fermentation, were highly praised at a competition for their tropical fruit flavors and candy-like sweetness. At Sarutahiko Coffee, the beans are roasted to a shallow roast, giving them an elegant aroma like champagne with ripe strawberries floating on top, and an elegant, sweet, sparkling flavor. Be sure to try it this year before it's gone!
