What is the New Vintage anyway?
In the 1990s, the term "vintage" was used to describe vintage clothing that did not meet the definition of "antique," but still had value, as opposed to "antique" clothing that was 100 years old. Nowadays, there is a movement to find new value in "new vintage," even in old clothes from the 1980s onward, which used to be called "regular" vintage clothes. In this project, four vintage clothing stores with different styles propose new ways to enjoy vintage clothing. Each of them will talk about the charm of vintage clothing with their own sense of style.
This Series has entered its sixth season. . So, the stores have been switched and restarted this time. The 45th issue, the top of the series, is the second round of "Summer of love" by SHUN.

-Now, what is the new vintage item you are going to introduce this time?
OAKLEY" footwear. We have been developing not only eyewear but also apparel, bags, caps, and other accessories for some time. It is no secret that Oakley is known for its eyewear, but we had been noticing that there were some interesting apparel items as well, and since more and more stores were carrying them, we thought we would focus on footwear.
-Please tell us what kind of models you have prepared for us this time.
First of all, here is the "Oakley Fresh" model. Oakley Fresh" is a model that was sold from the end of the 1990s until around 2010. This May, Oakley collaborated with Brain Dead to reissue the model for the first time in 10 years, which became a hot topic. The original upper was made of Duravac, a synthetic nubuck material that was also used for Nike's AJ series, etc. . This is the same material, and although it has deteriorated considerably, it somehow looks like a camouflage pattern, and I rather like it! By the way, the soles were peeled off, so they were repaired by re-compression and repaired to a wearable condition.

-I see. They are indeed exquisite. What are the characteristics of Oakley's footwear?
We have sold several kinds of shoes, and if I were to point out a common point among them, it would be the soles. Basically, they are thicker, and many of them have unique designs such as streamlines, giving them a "unique" feel. The collaboration model of "Braindead" was priced at ¥22,000, but the price has soared to nearly ¥100,000. The collaboration model was sold at both Brain Dead Studios Harajuku and Pilgrim Surf+Supply, and both sold out immediately. . The brand is also highly regarded overseas, more so than in Japan, and in the U.K. and other Western countries, it seems to be popular among enthusiasts who collect tech-related vintage gear. It seems to be a standard item to wear with shell jackets from ARC'TERYX and THE NORTH FACE.
-The other pair is similar in feel to the "GRAVIS" of the late 90's and 00's. .
This is a model from about 2001. . Indeed, it may have been the after-shoes feeling that was popular at the time. The metal parts on the side, the bold upper, and the sole that smells of board culture, etc., all give a sense of the atmosphere of the time, which is quite interesting. Also, the color scheme is badass, and depending on how you look at them, they have an atmosphere like gym shoes (laughs). By the way, they are dead stock with the box.

-You mentioned apparel earlier, what is it like there?
Shirts, for example, you can find American-style designs, but in the early 00's there are a lot of simple designs. Even if they are patterned, they are relatively plain and easy to use. Oakley's apparel seems to have an ordinary atmosphere, like something an American guy would wear on a daily basis, but if you look closely, you can see that the edges are all cut off, and you can sense "a little bit of nuance taken from designer clothes. ." The saltiness of it all is just right, and I think it's interesting for clothing lovers to see.
-It seems that many people of Mr. Shun's generation are paying attention to Oakley as well.
Many people around me have expressed interest in it in the past year or so. However, I myself have been digging for quite some time now, so I feel like I've already digested it once ...... (laughs). However, there have been leaked images of another reissue in the future, and I believe that this fever will not die down and will continue. In addition to sneakers, we also have mules and boots in stock, so we will release them when the time is right. Also, as for apparel, shell jackets are interesting, so I would like to pay attention to that area as well.

We value the thrill of the creator's design and pick up a wide range of designer's clothing. SoL brushes up these items with new visuals based on its own interpretation. He is the young owner of "Summer of Love," a used select store that proposes "vintage" clothing in a modern way. Currently, he is running an actual store in Shibuya together with "blue room," which appeared earlier in this Series. In September of this year, he also started an original label under a different name, and his first collection will include knit and faux suede set-ups.
