What is the New Vintage anyway?
In the 1990s, the term "vintage" was used to describe vintage clothing that did not meet the definition of "antique," but still had value, as opposed to "antique" clothing that was 100 years old. Nowadays, there is a movement to find new value in "new vintage," even in old clothes from the 1980s onward, which used to be called "regular" vintage clothes. In this project, four vintage clothing stores with different styles propose new ways to enjoy vintage clothing. Each of them will talk about the charm of vintage clothing with their own sense of style.
This Series has now entered its seventh season. So, we are restarting this series with a new store. The 51st issue features Taku Ishibashi of "MUD" in Shimokitazawa.

-What is the new vintage for you?
First of all, the premise is that the value of an item is no longer attached to it because "Mr. Fatty recommended it," as was the case in the past, but rather each store now prices what they think is good from their own perspective and value standards. For us, it is "can people of all ages wear it as everyday wear? In other words, the key is whether or not the clothes can be worn as real clothes. In addition, there are things that are not valued in the market at all, but are sold out as soon as they arrive, and are hard to find when buying. I believe that these items should be evaluated as "new vintage" from a different point of view than the existing "true vintage" value standard.
-So, what items did you choose for this year's event?
It is a sweat stadium jacket of "J.CREW". It is a light outerwear worn like a shirt, and it was made in the 00's. The faded color and texture are also in the current mood. This kind of faded color and texture is also in the current mood. As the tag says "VINTAGE FLEECE", it must be a line with a vintage taste design. So, I think this item was sold in this condition from the beginning.

Gap, Eddie Bauer, and L.L. Bean, which are popular in the vintage clothing industry and are in a similar position, often have items that you say, "Oh, this is it," when you see them, but at Coco's, I have the impression that I can find items that I don't see very often and I want to wear them. I have the impression that you can find items that you don't see very often, and you just end up wanting to try them on. Since the company was founded in 1983, I think every item fits into the framework of "new vintage.
-In the 00's, there was a time when this kind of American classic vintage taste was popular.
The result was that it became too fashionable. As a result, it became too fashionable, and the number of "to-match" items that were all about processing technology increased, so people got tired of it and avoided it. However, there are now brands that make such items again, and I have the impression that the younger generation is accepting them flatly as "something fresh and new" that they have not seen before. In terms of J.Crew, shirts and knitwear are often found in this age group, but sporty items like this do not appear very often, so I think the choice of a sweat jacket is an interesting one.
-What are the strong points of the sweat stadium jacket itself?
It's not cold enough to wear heavy outerwear, and I'm not in the mood for shell outerwear. But when it's chilly, it's casual enough to throw on. Another advantage is that they can be washed at home. Easy to care for means it is easy to wear for everyday use. The color scheme of the cut-outs and ribs on the body is a key factor in choosing a garment. The other thing to consider is the size of the model introduced here: even though it is an XL size, the length and sleeves are long, the body width is firm, and the ribbing is loose. It's also a thin 8-10 ounce weight, so it's easy to layer. It's also a real close, so no complaints here.
-How would you dress this item?
Both "sweatshirts" and "stadium jackets" have a strong sporty image, so instead of choosing denim pants for bottoms, try matching them with slacks.
