Shohei Takasaki's large-scale solo exhibition at Gallery COMMON rethinks the relationship between fashion and art.

In this exhibition, in order to question the value system that contrasts art and fashion, the artist considers "wearing clothes" to be "collage on the body," and compares the state in which clothes cover the body with the situation in which paints cover the canvas. By daring to use "clothing collage," which is in contrast to the slow production of paintings, the artist expresses the freedom that the immediacy of fashion brings.

On the occasion of the exhibition, Mr. Takasaki commented, "I often compare the nature of 'fashion' with 'collage,' one of the creative methods of painting. In most cases, collage can save a lot of time, can bring unexpected fragments from another dimension, and can move away from the finished image of the work that was visualized only in the artist's mind. In the case of fashion, the body has many sections from the tip of the head to the tip of the toes due to the nature of the "body covering," and the fashion expression as a whole is a canvas created by the collage of many elements," he commented.

Wearing clothes and painting seem to have nothing to do with each other, but they have one thing in common: they both conceal the body and the campus. At first glance, there seems to be no connection between these two activities, but they share the commonality of concealing the body and the campus.
