With Mexican mural paintings as her starting point, she freely expresses herself on canvas, embroidery, ceramics, etc. We are interested in the new works of Naoko Tanaka.

A mural movement that took place in Mexico from the 1920s to the 1950s to convey the significance of the revolution and their identity. Tokyo-based artistSchoko Tanaka / Naoko TanakaThe company's origins lie in Mexican murals, and it has been commissioned to create murals in Japan, collaborate with interior design brands, and even travel to Mexico to create murals in paintings, embroidery, ceramics, and other mediums.

The solo exhibition "CITY BOTANICS" by Naoko Tanaka is now on view,Shibuya PARCOlocated on the second floor of theOIL by Bijutsu Techo Galleryand will be held on Friday, June 21.

He freely traverses a wide range of expression, including wall painting, canvas, embroidery, and ceramics, and will exhibit new works, including a large three-meter work.

As I have been working on this project for the past few weeks, I have been thinking that painting may be one of the languages for me. Painting and speaking a foreign language are two things I have always valued.
When you learn a language, you gradually accumulate words in your mind, and as you learn to use them as words, you will expand your connection with others.
If we replace it with a painting, there is a sense that the motifs, colors, and composition of the painting are like "words".
When painting a large work, a generously shaped horse is in the center, surrounded by more delicate objects, plants and small creatures. There are two world lines in one painting: the large one and the small one.
I think there is a richness and expansiveness that comes from having opposites in the same place. It is similar to the expansion that occurs when speaking a foreign language, and I feel that my "pictures" as a language will continue to slowly accumulate like layers in the future.

As stated in the artist's statement, the experience of communicating with others, which has expanded infinitely through the acquisition of multiple languages, is projected onto the works with dynamic compositions and vivid colors, stimulating the hearts of many people.

The artist will be present at the reception party on the opening day, June 21 (Fri.) at 7:00 p.m., so please enjoy the world of Schoko Tanaka, both through her works and from the artist herself.
